Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has somehow managed to pile on massive bulk and muscle mass in a relatively short space of time since his last fight in the ring.

His last fight coming of course to Canelo Alvarez back in May of last year in Las Vegas which ultimately didn’t live up to expectations in a bout that Canelo won comfortably by unanimous decision.

After the fight, it was reported that Chavez had an item of personal belongings stolen from him by a woman in a Las Vegas hotel but other than that – he has been relatively quiet until now.

It would appear that he has been training away all this time in the anticipation of another fight but at what weight, who knows judging by the following video that has leaked on the Fight Hype YouTube channel (hat tip) and elsewhere on social media:

Speaking on social media he did reveal after his plans to go to light-heavyweight or super-middleweight:

“Next fight 175 o 168 less wear. better performance.”

Despite having one of the best trainers in the world over the years (Freddie Roach) and a legendary fighter in his father for advise (Chavez Sr) for some reason Chavez Jr has always struggled with making the weight over the years.

Thoughts?

Muscle won't make Junior a better fighter or instill discipline in him.

Wasn't Junior supposed to fight this month at the Forum?

Names mentioned are always Jacobs, Dirrell, Murray or even trial horse Angulo.

I guess Chavez will fight when he can comfortably make the cruiserweight limit.

To be fair on Julio César Chávez Jr., it must have taken an awful lot of discipline to make 1the 64lbs catchweight limit for the Canelo fight and to then drastically change his physique afterwards in such a short time.

For sure, the extra muscle may not necessarily help give Chávez Jr. an advantage the next time he steps foot inside the ring, but at least he hasn’t become a couch potato, because he mustn't have stopped training during his period of inactivity.

With the holiday festivities just over, it wouldn't be surprising if Chavez weighs well over 200 lbs.

It always made it unlikely that he would be ready for a January fight date, especially if he was serious about weighing 168.

I don't think we'll see Junior until the spring, when he'll reevaluate and decide to return as a light heavy.

Chavez had better have shown some discipline in making the catchweight vs. Canelo.

He undeservedly was in a major PPV bout, was taking home millions, and had to do what was expected of a professional fighter---act like a professional.

Since then he predictably whines that he was weak at the weight (immediately after the weigh in, Chavez said he felt perfect) and that his neck hurt.

Take your lumps and move on, Julio. You got beat by a better fighter that night.

The weight had nothing to do with it. If you weren't so lazy, you could probably still make 160.
