World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been found guilty of misdemeanor marijuana possession, but won’t spend any time behind bars.
Tuscaloosa Municipal Judge Ricky McKinney found Wilder, 32, guilty and ordered him to perform 60 hours of community service at the Benjamin Barnes Branch YMCA in west Tuscaloosa.
City prosecutors asked the judge to hand down a harsher sentence that would have included two days in jail and participation in a diversion program, which would required substance abuse education and court monitoring.
The judge instead gave Wilder a 30-day suspended sentence and community service.
“Judge McKinney is a fine judge, and we respect his ruling,” Wilder’s attorney, Paul Patterson said. “I will be meeting with Mr. Wilder in the next few days to discuss our appellate options, and we will consider what is best for him and his family.”
The city prosecutors had asked for two days in jail in accordance with the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office’s “gun-present” policy, in which anyone convicted of crime that occurred while they were in possession of a firearm would be required to serve a mandatory two days in jail. Wilder had a gun under the driver’s seat that is legal and registered to him, Patterson said.
Wilder was arrested during a traffic stop at the former Books-A-Million parking lot on Skyland Boulevard in June. Tuscaloosa Police officers searched the Cadillac Escalade with his permission, and found marijuana that his lawyer said belonged to someone else.

He doesn't know the law. He should have (very politely) refused permission for them to search.
Ridiculous that this would cost anyone even a dollar. Outdated BS.

If Wilder can pass VADA with probably the most easily detected drug, which stays in the system months, what else might he be taking?

Wilder is from the same State as Jeff Sessions. He's lucky he's not being executed.

And? Who cares about weed
Atleast he was not dealing it like someone else ...
I think he could be taking Ostarine or Meldonium.

Wilder had a firearm under the drivers seat.... Smoking dope and firearms don't mix....especially for somebody of Wilder's temperament... If you get into a road rage incident with Wilder you better peel out of there.
He's been arrested for felony assault on a women... He couldn't even go to England for his fight with Dereck Chisora because of that... Remember the commercial "I'm jellin' like a felon" ... He doesn't do that well.
From the news article "The woman had swollen eyebrows, a broken nose, a cut lip, and red marks on her neck, according to officers. She was taken to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and treated for her injuries.
Patterson told Michael Woods of TheSweetScience.com that the woman is an acquaintance who, like Wilder, was in Vegas to see the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero.
Wrote Woods: “Patterson said that the woman could not be characterized as a paramour of Wilder, who is married.”
Wilder was charged with a felony count of domestic violence-strangulation, booked into Clark County Detention Center."
What the Wilder team obviously did was pay the woman a substantial sum and she dropped charges...
Then of course, Wilder promised to "KILL" Bermane Stiverne... That's not a smart way for a boxer to talk.

I wonder three things,
Was the gun loaded?
Were there any of his prints on the baggie?
Did they test him for dope?

I can't speak for how it works in 'Bama, but in quite a few states, if you refuse police permission to search the car, LE will bring in canines.
If the dogs detect the scent of drugs from the outside of the car, police then have reasonable cause to enter the vehicle and perform a search.

Are you saying he's not allowed in England or he's not allowed to fight in England?
Because of an arrest. Or because of a conviction?

Wilder has a huge ego and a lot of false pride. It's good to know he's been humbled, at least a little bit.
I'd love to see Joshua KO the big phony, but I know Wilder will never fight him.

2 years probation, 60 hours community service and a 30 day suspended sentence. Plenty for a misdemeanor.

^^^VADA prohibited list.
All I did was scroll through the list so I may have missed it but I did not see cannabis listed.
I encourage you to check the list yourself and prove me wrong if you find it listed.
There is a long list of substances VADA is testing for but doesn't appear cannabis is one of them.

Deontay Wilder hasn’t actually tested positive for any banned substance, since he was only in possession of it, VADA doesn’t deal out punishments and the consumption of recreational drugs are not banned out-of-competition by other organisations, such as the NSAC, WADA, UKAD, USADA etc.
This is basic “bread and butter” type information that you shouldn’t need to be told!

In many states if the cops or dogs smell drugs, they have probable cause. But a Supreme Court case, forget the name, held that there can be no search 1) without permission or 2) probable cause.
Many people say "No," and then the cops need a warrant.

The law doesn't care if Deontay ever smoked marijuana. What's important to them is possession. And if he owned the vehicle, he is lawfully responsible.
Deontay may or may not be a user. My guess is he is not. If no one has ever left contraband in your vehicle, you have either never owned a vehicle, or have lived a very sheltered life.
For people who are confused about this. Pot is NOT a PED.

You guys simply aren't real boxing fans, you guys have no clue what happened at the time and how he escaped fighting Chisora, who would still be, and by far, his best opponent ever.

what makes you think deontay doesnt enjoy a little every now and then like a lot of us, including athletes. since u seem to think you can tell who uses drugs and who doesnt. no shame in enjoying some green, but 'someone else left it' is a text book excuse
btw im sure plenty of ppl have had ppl in there car yet never had illegal stuff left in it. no ones ever left drugs in my car and ive had plenty of ppl in it. tbh you seem like a really poor judge of other ppl
