So, Murray gets another title shot, this time against BJS. After losing to Sturm, Martinez, Golovkin, old one-dimensional Abraham, plus Groves (for a paper title), and not having any wins worth mentioning lately, he gets another shot.

Sergey Kovalev’s last two opponents weren’t rated in the top fifteen rankings of the WBO at the time those fights were announced, but because he’s Eastern European, you don’t complain about this fact! The Krusher receives a free pass, because he's from your neck of the woods!

Billy Joe Saunders is now engaging in a voluntary defence against a top-ten world-rated WBO title opponent, immediately after dominating and embarrassing his mandatory challenger, but you suddenly become outraged?

Talk about double-standards! I realise your bias, but please apply your standards consistently, because you’re making yourself look foolish doing otherwise!

Looks like a filler in bout which buys BJS time to make something bigger later in the year... least that's what it looks like.

Drawing with Sturm in Germany is as good as a win, he arguably beat Martinez, gave GGG his toughest defense up to Golovkin's last two fight and lost to super middleweights in his other two fights, one of them a current world champion. Sounds like a decent voluntary defense. There have been safer defenses than this one.

nope. your comment assumes unfair judging but the judging wasnt unfair to murray. many had sturm winning actually.

Yeah it's definitely become common these days that a guy that can't quite cut it at the top, but gives a game effort and goes the distance will get a shot at every title in or around his weight range a lot of the time.

Rocky Juarez was another guy kinda in that vein a while back. There always seems to be a few guys like that floating around.

Not in that fight. A draw or 115-113 for either fighter was a fair scorecard in that fight. Unlike a few others the judges did not rob Murray of a win over Sturm.

Good point. Promoters like the perennial, recycled "contenders" too because it helps their fighters keep their 0!!
