A limited amount of available challenges at 130 pounds apparently has convinced Vasyl Lomachenko to move up to 135 pounds for his next fight.
Promoter Bob Arum told the Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire during an open workout Friday at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club that Lomachenko’s next fight “definitely” will take place within the lightweight division sometime late in April. Arum also said that his promotional company, Top Rank Inc., will target Ray Beltran and Jorge Linares before settling on an opponent for Lomachenko at lightweight.
Ukraine’s Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs) is the WBO super featherweight champion, but Arum hasn’t been able to secure title unification fights against WBC champ Miguel Berchelt (32-1, 28 KOs) or WBA champ Alberto Machado (19-0, 16 KOs).

It;s a shame, he's fought 10 world title fights and not one of them has been a unification.
Why can't Arum sort this out?

They're going to target Linares and Beltran (who is challenging for the WBO title).
Good thing is, both are promoted by GBP, who have a deal with HBO and ESPN. So ESPN can televise the fights seeing as Arum only works with ESPN now.

If he had a massive stable of fighters around those divisions, it would have been better.

Its playing out exactly as Arum wants. Loma will fight at 135 next, then he will fight Pac at 140. A fight with Linares would be fun to watch.
This way it may satisfy Loma's old man, who is the one that put a stop to the notion of Loma going up two weight classes to fight Pacquiao. I think Pac has a better chance than most here think, but we will see if it happens.

linares at 135 then pac at 140 would be fine by me, though id think loma should probably move back down from 140 after

Mikey Garcia will wallop Linares before Lomachenko ever gets near him.

Loma should start considering leaving Top Rank. Bob Arum can't secure fights for shit. There is no reason why loma shouldn't be fighting unifications instead of stupid meaningless in house fights like Beltran or Marriaga

There is not enough money at low weights to lure other champions to get humiliated in the ring with Loma. Arum or somebody else, until Loma moves up enough to seem beatable, there will be no unifications.

Lomachenko has been brought up a lot better than all the dudes on PBC. He just drew 1.7 million on ESPN, and he's considered the best fighter p4p. You can't get any better than that. Things won't be better on PBC. Just look at Error Spence Jr.

it's a shame that we won't get to see him vs Berchelt (at least not anytime soon from the looks of it), but if he moves up and takes on Linares or other big name opponents I ain't complaining.

I am a little surprised they couldn't pull fighters up in weight. Loma against Santa Cruz, Frampton or Mares would all be interesting. And at some point he will max out. He is cruising up in weight classes pretty quickly.

Yep. Which really isn't particularly smart. No matter how talented you are eventually that size differential matters. Chocolatito can tell you all about that.

oscar and arum are starting to talk about this more. but will they work together and could they agree on a network. linares is the top lightweight, unless you count garcia, who has one lightweight fight in four years and is next fighting at 140

Chuck a kid who obviously has mental issues into a hard fight. That seems like a sensible thing to do.

I think Linares is a tough test for Loma due to Linares speed, and ability to move. Linares is not a hard hitting lightweight, but a really solid pro. If Loma got by Linares this would be a good set up either a Mikey Garcia fight or a Pacqiao fight.

I don't think Linares has anything for Lomachenko. It's a mismatch. Lomachenko made his name in the Olympics beating dudes like Linares. This will be GRJ 2.0.
Berchelt and Mikey are the only ones that would give Lomachenko a good fight, especially Mikey because of his godly power at 135.

Don't you think though that even though Linares isn't as talented as Lomachenko, his size advantage will help him to compensate for his lack of skills in comparison to Loma?
