Unbeaten Japanese hard-puncher Daigo Higa extended his unblemished mark to 15-0, 15 KOs when he successfully retained his WBC flyweight belt by a quick demolition of Mexican Moises Fuentes (25-5-1, 14 KOs) at 2:32 of the opening session on Sunday in Naha, Okinawa, Japan.
Higa, making his second defense, swarmed over the taller Mexican, formerly two-division champ, and exploded a very vicious right to the midsection, dropping him on all fours in agony. Referee Len Koivisto, Canada, tolled a fatal ten against the crestfallen loser.

Hopefully he gets to attempt to unify the division. I'm sure the Japanese can stump up the money to bring Nietes over.

daigo higa is my favourite lighter weight fighter. two handed power upstairs and down and certainly not afraid to let his hands go. first rocks fuentes with an overhand right then crumples him with with lefts and rights to the body. guy is brutal. granted fuentes is past his best, but higa is a bad bad man for anyone in his division.

Surprising fact...Nietes has never fought a Japanese foe as a professional...staggering given how much time he has been in the sport

He fought Kosei Tanaka, dude. Plus, Moi is completely shot. I knew Higa was going to stop him easy. I just noticed you said Nietes and not Moi. Yeah, you're right.

donnie nietes has to be up there for the boxer who gets the least attention relative to their ability and accomplishments. you practically never hear much about him and his bouts seem to get like no coverage. his ko victim moeses fuentes gets far more attention, for example.
i guess part of that could indeed be related to not fighting japanese opponents. boxing in japan is one of the best ways for the really little guys to get attention and donnie hasnt done that
this guy is a three time, multiple division champ and hasnt lost for almost 15 years (his loss was very questionable too), and it seems few care!
