Bellew: "If I land my left hook on Usyk, it will have an effect"

Tony Bellew says he’s going to immediately call out WBC/WBO cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk if/when he wins the tournament against Murat Gassiev. Bellew says if he lands his left hook on Usyk, it’ll have some kind of an effect.
Seems even more confident. Speaking to IFL tv..
“Emeritus champion, which allows me to call upon Mr. Oleksandr Usyk. I’ll wait for the WBSS [World Boxing Super Series] is over, and then I’ll be calling that name…Yes, I’ll go in with Oleksandr Usyk, and yes, I may be getting punched all over the place for 5 or 6 rounds, but understand, I will land, and that left hook will have an effect. If it can have an effect on heavyweights, it can have an effect on cruiserweights too.”
Would you like him fight maybe Dorticos or any other CW contender before calling out Usyk (although he doesn't have to).. Usyk can tick off the UK as being another country he's fought in and won.

i think all 4 semi finalists would beat bellew, though i think hes a legit solid cruiser. if hes really gunning for the winner i wouldnt advise him to face anyone like dorticos first. maybe maxim vlasov or kevin lerena.
i imagine if he does fight the winner hell be 36 or 37 by that time
lebedevs an emeritus champ now too isnt he? or champ in recess i think the wba calls it

Yeh, means the same thing. Difference is, Bellew can take his fight whenever he calls it. Whereas the WBA will mandate the winner to start negotiations with Lebedev. I'm okay with the winner fighting Leb, even if it's Gassiev.
Is Bellew 34 now? He'll look to make the challenge by end of the year I think. Hearn will get that fight on PPV. Build it as an undisputed fight, which it is.

I've learnt not to write of TB but I really think the winner of this will be too much, good business though, if he'd have fought any of the last 4 in the past there probably wouldn't have been much money on the table, now with all 4 belts it'll be a big PPV event.

100%.. Bellew will hail himself better than Haye and Enzo Mac if he becomes undisputed.

Cruiserweight accomplishments, he's nowhere near, but I agree. Also Mac's defences weren't great.. But at least he had some and attempted to unify.

enzo was around a long time but he honestly didnt do that much at the weight, who were his three best wins at cruiser. braithwaite and then?

Roy Jones Jr.
He probably had more success in the domestic scene when he moved down to LHW.

lol might be. honestly as much as i like enzo i dont rate him that highly. i think even someone today like maxim vlasov couldve probably stopped him even near his peak.
and for all his time at the weight he really has a pretty empty record there in terms of beating quality opponents.
lebedev absolutely thrashed him early as did haye. enzo was a throwback warren wbo belt holder.

What? He's fought one single HW. I can't remember his power having that much of an effect. Haye literally couldn't defend himself in the end

Breidis hits much harder than Bellew. Ok Charr is not as good as Haye but Breidis had him unconscious for about 5 minutes whereas the Haye stoppage was down to injury.

He’s timed it well to be fair. Had he stayed at cruiser and got mixed up in the super series, he’d have done well to even make a semin final, let alone the final!
Now he’s down to fight the winner of it all in some weird attempt to convince people that’s the real decider as to who is the cruiser king! All for knocking out a nobody for a vacant paper title and then defending it against David Haye’s mate.
Eddie, I’ll say it again, you are some kind of magician in the pomortion stakes! Incredible what he’s managed to do with Bellew. Fair fvcking play too
Tony has got to get up some mornings, look in the mirror and spend the best part of his day cracking up to himself!

Bellew struggled with Masternak in a ‘boxing match’.
If Masternak takes 5 rounds off him then Usyk shuts him out.
The shootout with Makabu is as good as it will EVER get for Tony Bellew at Cruiserweight.

Quite. It is a bit of a shame how actual events are quickly misremembered. Already people talk about the time Bellew knocked David Haye out, when the reality is that David Haye wobbled around on one leg fighting gravity (which won) whilst Bellew stood out of range too cautious to engage. Similarly I hear people talking about the time Tyson Fury battered Wladimir Klitschko.

Personally I wouldn’t write bellew off at cruiser. Bellews best aspect has always been his go out all guns blazing and try and bang the other guy out style. IMO he has struggled when he had tried to change to outboxing his opponent. If he comes running out trying to go to war he has more than enough power, and I think people are forgetting he beat a good opponent for his world title, in a very exciting manner.

Wow let’s calm down I didn’t say very good, I said good. There’s no real yardstick over than usyk and makabu both beat the same guy. Makabu was no slouch, and he got destroyed in 3 rounds. It was wasn’t a hard drawn out fight. Im not saying usyk wouldn’t be a big favourite even in my own opinion but bellew is being completely written off here, he shouldn’t be.

Fair enough. I can't see anything else but a 120-108 or late stoppage

i dont think bellew hits any harder than briedis and usyk took his shots well. if usyk holds up to gassievs shots than its another reason why i dont really think bellews power would be all that much of a factor. if usyks chin doesnt hold vs gass than we may not even be talking about usyk-bellew come may
btw is this finn guy seriously trying to say theres not much to differentiate between usyk and makabu? what a tit! by the way makabu had absolute hell with mhcunu, was seriously hurt, and was pretty much even when he got the 11th round stoppage in an ultra tough fight. usyk beat mchunu way easier and was never hurt at all. makabu could also barely beat dmitryo kucher, a guy who could only win about 3 rounds vs the huck who usyk battered every round.
usyk is way better than makabu and takes a shot much better too. he wasnt put on queer street by mchunu like makabu was or knocked out in the first round by a nobody. and theres no way usyk would only win an md vs kutcher. absolute retardation of the highest order to suggest that there isnt much to go by to serperate usyk from makabu. hes bigger and way fornicating better. get some f@cking eyes mate!
bellew had a 7-5 with masteuz masternak too. that said im not saying its impossible for him to win, but i do thinks its unlikely and its absolutely mindboggling stupidity to act like its hard to split usyk and makabu.
