Daniel Jacobs vs. Maciej Sulecki - 28 April 2018

Daniel Jacobs is close to securing an opponent for his next fight, just not the one everyone expected.

Keith Connolly, Jacobs’ manager, confirmed to BS.com on Monday that negotiations are ongoing for Poland’s Maciej Sulecki to battle Jacobs on April 28 in a fight HBO would televise. If a deal is completed for the Jacobs-Sulecki fight, it will be the main event of a card at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Jacobs’ hometown.

“We’re in negotiations for Danny to fight Sulecki, but the deal isn’t done,” Connolly said. “We’re hoping to have it finalized soon. We’re looking forward to Danny fighting April 28th at the Barclays Center.”

Irish middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan wanted to fight Jacobs (33-2, 29 KOs) and expressed through social media recently that he had accepted an offer for that bout. O’Sullivan’s handlers at Golden Boy Promotions, which exercised its multi-fight option on O’Sullivan after he won his last fight, want him to fight someone else and wouldn’t move forward with a Jacobs bout.

That left Eddie Hearn, Jacobs’ promoter, to pursue another opponent.

Sulecki (26-0, 10 KOs) has been competing at junior middleweight and is in position to fight longtime contender Vanes Martirosyan (36-3-1, 21 KOs) in a WBC 154-pound elimination match. Had Sulecki chosen that route, the winner would’ve fought WBC super welterweight champ Jermell Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) in his following fight.

The 28-year-old Sulecki presumably will make more money for facing Jacobs, though, thus he has decided to move back up to the division in which he has boxed for most of his seven-year pro career.

Sulecki isn’t considered a puncher, but he knocked out then-unbeaten Hugo Centeno Jr. (26-1, 16 KOs, 1 NC) in a middleweight match in June 2016. Centeno, of Oxnard, California, will encounter Houston’s Jermall Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs) for the WBC interim middleweight title March 3 at Barclays Center (Showtime).

In his last fight, Sulecki out-boxed Ecuador’s Jack Culcay (22-3, 11 KOs), a former WBA super welterweight champion, to win a 10-round unanimous decision October 21 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Not terrible, but nothing especially exciting either. Sulecki has at least competed for a large part of his career at middle but he doesn’t look a fully sized 160lber. Probably a better level than O’Sulliven, who now looks destined for what should be an entertaining fight with Lemieux

I rate Sulecki. I see him giving Jacobs a good fight.
One of those fights that ends up in a 118-110 but every round being competetive enough.
Jacobs is a top quality middle. He could of easily got the nod against GGG.
Can’t see how being with Matchroom will prove to be beneficial for him though.

Daniel Jacobs vs. Maciej Sulecki approved as WBA final eliminator

The WBA has ruled that the April 28th bout between former champion Daniel Jacobs and unbeaten Maciej Sulecki will serve as a final eliminator for the “Super” middleweight title currently in Gennady Golovkin’s hands, putting the winner in line for a shot at either Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez.

What a load of sh*t it should be Murata to get rid of the second belt.

Anyway I'm not convinced this fight is even happening. Surely if you're HBO and Tom Loeffler you get in touch with Jacobs team and Hearn to say Danny is the backup should Clenelo get banned.

Jacobs is in camp for a fight a week before so him stepping in for the fight should not be a problem.

A few boxers have said they would fight GGG.. Jacobs is the only boxer, surprisingly, to not say he'll fight.

Ive heard of Sulecki but not sure if ive seen him before, I was looking through his record, its decent actually, Jacobs a big step up for him but he has got stoppage wins over Proksa and Centeno Jr and is coming off a comfortable decision over Culcay so he's got decent experience coming into this one, I thought Jacobs looked a bit out of sorts against Arias last time, he won every round but he was unimaginative similar to Tete against Narvaez at the weekend there

Jacobs is one of the worlds top MWs and he should be too good for Sulecki, think it might go points again though

sulecki was hurt a few times by culcay and pushed around, and looked almost out on his feet at one point, though he deserved the win overall

hes decent but i question his chin. if he comes to fight i think hell get knocked up, but if shells up we could see another arias fight
