The Mexican is also fighting to become a green card resident of the United States, and winning a World Title will push him one step closer to becoming a recognized citizen in the country he has occupied for 20 years.

Should be, but with Jennings things are rarely straightforward. He needs to sharpen up if he is to have any chance of getting another shot at a world title. Right now, very few people would pay to see him fight Wilder and even the UK fans, who I sometimes think would part with their dough to watch Joshua versus a potted plant, would be howling with derision if Bryant was announced as a even a possible challenger to AJ.

I watch pretty much every card live - lucky enough to do it from work.

I tipped Beltran to decision Moses earlier in the week but the more I think about it the more I think Beltran will pummel him within 6 rounds

Gotta hand it to old hard bargain Bob. Very rarely see a pointless mismatch on a Top Rank card.

beltran wins a fair ud but looked pretty damn average.slow and plodding, easy to hit, and seems the ped power worn off.

i will really f@cking hate if they make him vs loma next but id bet thats what happens. poor use of lomas time and talents.

When you get well matched 36 and 39 year olds, they are both likely to be fairly easy to hit. Fighters may go on for longer tthan they used to but the reflexes still slow with age.

Don't like those 117-111 cards. They don't reflect the contribution Moses made to what was a highly entertaining main event, but I can't help but get sentimentally drawn in by the whole Beltran story and just what this win and the title means to him and his family

Just watched it now.. scored it 114-114! Lol

There is a reason why Beltran hasn't won a word title before this. He's just an average fighter. Especially at his age now.. who's his first defence going to be?

116-112 beltran but he looked very lackluster. i will be very disappointed if hes lomas next opponent and unfortunately i think he will be

117-112 Beltran for me, glad to see 3 good cards from the judges, his body punching and work rate winning on the night, Moses had his moments and put in a great effort for a 39 year old, he dipped the legs of Beltran with a big right hand but Beltran again showed a great beard

Beltran hurt Moses with a right hand himself earlier in the fight and I think some of those bodyshots took the wind out of Moses but he hung in there well, strong finish from Beltran to seal the deal

Decent competitive scrap

I Had Beltran 116-112.

I thought Moses boxed well. I didn’t expect him to box so well. Caught Beltran flush numerous occasions.

Beltran didn’t have the power he has showed in previous fights and the reason why is obvious.

I can’t stand Beltran. The guy is a convicted drug cheat and is still packaged by Top Rank as a hero fighting for his family.
The truth of the matter (taps nose) his citizenship has been pretty much guaranteed for a while but Mr Arum and Top Rank love a fairytale.

I hope his next fight isn’t Loma. I hope he gets KO by the USA government and sent back across the wall.

Moses' Promoter: Beltran Lost, Biased Judges Scored for His Visa!

Two months after an unsuccessful try to win the vacant WBO lightweight title, Paulus Moses and his promoter still feel they are the victim of boxing politics.

The Namibian fighter fought fellow top-rated Raymundo Beltran on February 16 in Reno, Nevada for the World Boxing Organization 135-pound belt, vacated by unbeaten Terry Flanagan. Despite being 39 years old and having spent his last couple of years fighting in Africa against mediocre opposition, Moses (40-4, 25 KO) gave hell to the younger Beltran before the judges declared the hometown boxer the winner following an all-action twelve-round encounter.

“It was a very exciting fight. The kind of fights that one rarely gets to see these days between two opponents that go all out to give the fans their monies worth,” told Nestor Tobias, Moses’s promoter to BS.com recently.

Many fans and boxing insiders thought the bout could have gone either way after both pugilists were able to hurt the other and control the action in waves during the carnage. However, judges scored it pretty one-sided as they favored Beltran (35-7-1, 21 KO) by scores of 117-111 twice and 116-112.

“We felt hard done by the decision, it was as if the night was all about Beltran and Beltran only, and clearly Beltran was declared the winner long before the fight started. Moses has no shame about this fight in our eyes, he gave it his all and was the winner.”

What Tobias mentions is the fact that during the build-up of the fight, American press heavily publicized about the green card issue of the Mexican Beltran who was said to be in great need of a world title to be able to secure a permanent stay for his wife and three children in his adopted country of the United States.

The Namibian businessman, who brought his country fame through boxing as he gave three world titlists to Namibia in the past decade, feels the judges were emotionally intoxicated by the story of Beltran and that made a heavy toll on their job that night.

“Before I talk about the judges, let us start from the commentators. It was all a publicity stunt, about Beltran’s visa and how this fight will get him to stay in the US, so sad for boxing. At the end of the day, there were two fighters in the ring, and that is all the judges should have scored, the fight and not vote for his green card. Boxing should be about boxing, otherwise, the sport will lose its credibility,” stated Tobias.

Moses, who will turn forty in June this year, never spent too much energy on criticizing the judges’ work as he has learned much during his over one-and-a-half decades in the pro game.

“Look, I have seen too many fights and have been in boxing long enough to know that certain decisions you will never get even if you give it your best, and this [one against Beltran] was one of them. Complaining was not going to help anything, I have put that behind me, but one thing is for sure, I will never allow myself to have such a close fight and leave it in the hands of the judges,” said Moses to BS.com.

The Namibian pugilist is positive regarding his performance that February night in Reno and turns his attention to the future where he would happily accept a rematch against his predecessor.

“Of course, I did enough to win the fight. Fights are scored round by round, it is not a contest who finished stronger, and what the judges can remember. But I have learned my lesson and I would welcome a rematch anytime.”

hes right about it being a showcase for beltran and his story, but the decision was fair, i thought beltran won 8 rounds, even though he didnt impress at all and had issues with a 40 year old who looked nothing near world level going into it

It was a close fight but I’m pretty sure I had Beltran nicking it.

It was a good fight though. I’d happily watch a rematch.
