I was trying to recall a fight the other day whereby one fighter is nailing the other and actually tells the ref to stop it? May have been an American fight

Can anyone else recall about whereby this has happened?

Rogan had a scenario like this? Sexton maybe? And then lost?

Yup that's right. He hesitated and pleaded with the ref when Sexton looked out of it and ended up losing.

Didn't Eubanks jr do it against one of his many mediocre opponents too? I've seen it happen a few times but can't remember off the top of my head who was involved.

I think Selby did it against Munroe.

I thought he was out of order doing it as I didn't think the fight was anywhere near one-sided enough to justify that sort of behaviour.

I might be misremembering this though.

Roberto Duran did it with an overmatched opponent. Duran was old at the time. The other guy was against the ropes, barely standing - Duran stopped, looked at the ref, waved him in and shrugged. The ref then did step in.

Yeah, it seems like Selby tricked Ian John Lewis into a premature stoppage.

Didn’t Lennox do this against Bruno?

And I’m sure Eubank Sr did it a few times after the Watson fight.

Was just going to say that, he was waving the ref again and again, after a bit he gets bored, shrugs his shoulders and goes to town in the guy.

Muhammad Ali did it against Ron Lyle

Both Joe Frazier and Jerry Quarry basically asked Joe Louis to stop their rematch. The Brown Bomber was not exactly the greatest referee.

Judah vs Spinks 2

Judah motioned the ref in twice, the second time shaking his head and waving his hand in Spinks' direction as Cory wobbled around the ring.

This was vs Leamy Tato on the undercard of his fathers bout vs Joe Parker. He was yelling at the ref to stop the fight in the first round. He didnt, then finished the job early in the second

Seem to remember Calzaghe asking the referee to stop it when he was steaming through 'Kid Fire' McIntyre. Great matchmaking for that fight.....a real 50/50 affair

Leonard was beckoning to the referee to stop it in the 14th round against Tommy Hearns and the referee obliged. Leonard was behind on points.

Trying to remember the details but I'm pretty sure Antonio Tarver did it against Eric Harding. Tarver was nailing Harding repeatedly but veteran ref Bill Paige wouldn't stop it and Tarver was telling him too.

Eventually it was stopped belatedly and Tarver was saying to the ref, "You want to me kill him?!"

I remember Denis Lebedev vs. Roy Jones Jr.

When RJJ was more or less unconscious, Leb looked at the ref like, 'Are you not going to stop this?'

Ref was too slow. Even let Leb have one last swing!
