Woodstock is no where near ready for Ronnie. That is the real Ronnie Clark a bit of time away has helped him see boxing the right way. Zelfa make no mistake is the best fighter he has been in with and contributed to a great fight. Zelfa will go on to be a world champion.. Question is could Ronnie?? I would like to see him going down the IBF route title. The title is vacant and with Billy Dibb, Gullieme Frenois and Devon Farmer all in the top 5. All of them are winnable fights.. Would like to see him in with Jonno Carroll next.. I think Pat is clever enough to stay away from that rematch and rebuild Zelfa.. Would like to see him at lightweight.. With Woodstock he should stick to his own path far too much hype in boxingsmiling assassin wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 06:49I backed against Clarke last night I wouldn't make the same mistake if this fight got made. Clarke on points for me. Very good fight
Well I think Clark was seen as a domestic level operator. He had been KO'd by Cacace and lost fairly clearly to Ward. Before last night you'd have put Barrett a level above that on what he has shown in terms of technical ability. I would have picked him to beat MJ Ward and I think most on here would have.bripez wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 08:34 I have just had another look at Ronnies record - he has done it the hard way that's for sure, on the road, no favours facing house fighters etc. etc.
Also just looked down Zelfa's record (although the same can be said for any "prospect") and it contains the usual domestic suspects plus overmatched overseas fighters that I have never heard of.
Surely there must be some balance between developing a record, picking up skills, progressing the number of rounds etc. - fair enough up to say 10 fights, but sooner or later they need to fight somebody who is willing and capable of fighting back.
Come on mate, it was a great win but not everybody is going to be a World Champion.daviddee wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 08:39Woodstock is no where near ready for Ronnie. Zelfa needs a run out next time then he needs a decent fight of Clark level, otherwise he will end up like Tyrone Nurse.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 09:17Well I think Clark was seen as a domestic level operator. It was sad he lost in a way because he showed some real bottle and heart, everything you wonder a prospect has he showed. He refused to be bullied and had plenty to say to Clark. He showed some spitefulness and remained pretty composed to get through the knockdown. A great learning fight I guess and judging from the heart and tenacity he showed, I can definitely see him coming back. He got exposed but it's hard to put Clark on a level now. Not sure if he really improved and genuinely can compete at world level or if Zelfa was just a fraud. I suppose when you have the likes of Billy Dib as a potential world title opponent, then winning the title is definitely possible. I'd like to see Clark win the belt, couldn't happen to a better bloke.
If you don’t aim for the stars you won’t get them.. Walsh is a featherweight.. Zelfa is Ronnie’s best opponent and by a long way.. The way Ronnie fought last night he stops Ward. As for a rematch with Barrett that does Zelfa no good. He’s only 24 he needs to get to the right weight and take a couple of years adjusting. He can be a World Champion but the timing has to be right..bripez wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 09:17Come on mate, it was a great win but not everybody is going to be a World Champion.daviddee wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 08:39Woodstock is no where near ready for Ronnie. Why not have a nice gimme fight next then rematches with Walsh, Ward then Barrett - these fights can cover British, Commonwealth and European titles. Hopefully Ronnie will be given a fair crack with no home cooking.
These are all tough but winnable fights for Ronnie - if he gets through that, then you can start talking about World titles.
If them fights can be made on tv like last night then surely he will pick up a few fans.
Barrett is unproven and should probably not be considered to be one of Clark's best 5 opponents, let alone the best.daviddee wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 09:29If you don’t aim for the stars you won’t get them.. Ronnie knows he’s been in with them.. Zelfa is the best opponent.. People are giving him a hard time and even Franks comments I think the should be happy.. Thst was a very very good Fighter.. As tough as they come some of the shots he took and to point out he dished put some too.. Zelfa had to throw power punches constantly to try and keep Ronnie off.. Both fighters exceeded my expectations.. Ronnie has still got more to give I know he can fight even better than that.. Zelfa needs to get his weight right huge shoulders needs to let the rest of his body catch up.. World Champion at lightweight or light welter I’m sure of itHorse wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 11:24Barrett is unproven and should probably not be considered to be one of Clark's best 5 opponents, let alone the best.daviddee wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 09:29If you don’t aim for the stars you won’t get them.. Yeah Franks a bit of a moral crusader like that, and he only takes on lads who were choirboys and don’t have so much as a parking ticket.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 14:27Doesn’t have the backing financially or in popularity to overcome domestic violence the way Mayweather did
No idea how he views men who threaten and knock women about. There are other boxers with similar issues working so it does go on, but what’s in it for a promoter when the man doesn’t draw a crowd?bripez wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 14:31Yeah Franks a bit of a moral crusader like that, and he only takes on lads who were choirboys and don’t have so much as a parking ticket.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Feb 2018, 14:27Doesn’t have the backing financially or in popularity to overcome domestic violence the way Mayweather did
