I thought McDonnell was moving up - surely he needs to fight the guy who he fought last (name has escaped me).

well big height difference, but solis was even shorter then inoue. if mcdonnell really waa starting to really feel the weight cut he could get crumpled here.

but ill say inoue wins a clear decision , maybe with some knock downs

I'd say he deserves a win for taking a risk that a lot of the other top fighters might not take

hell deserve a win based on what he does in the fight

one can applaud inoue too for facing a good opponent in his 118 debut, and for having been matched very tough very earlier (look where mcdonnell was 2 and 5.5 years into his career by comparison, and he wasnt exactly matched soft)

Dangerous game this, as Jamie has long been tight at the weight and Inoue May gain something moving up...

He obviously thinks the gamble is worth it, versus a smaller opponent.

If Inoue was a fast on his feet, zip in and out guy, this would surely be a disaster for McDonnell. I believe Inoue is fairly stiff and upright, with exciting attacking skills? Throws great combos, but slow on his feet, then has to take a bit of a break type of fighter? I.e. “modern superstar” template. Or am I wrong?

Hope McDonnell will be strong enough for one hell of a fight. Maybe the premature finish vs Solis last time saved him for one more fight? I hope Jamie is enough of a full time fighter, these days, as well. And that he will not take a ythi g for granted, not underestimate his man.

Nevertheless an exciting matchup that I hope will deliver.

he isn't that stiff and slow on his feet. his power is more waspish and snapping than thudding and muscular, he's got intuitive boxing skill and ring generalship. he's fairly upright I suppose but not John Murray.

He hasn’t got the power to keep Inoue off him. Good body puncher Inoue. That could be the ingredient to success here.

I have a few Inoue fights and will dig them out. I’d assumed he had wooden legs, fast hands, then has to recover from his big flurry, in the style of Shumenov or Canelo. And that he was blasting away little or overmatched opponents & will struggle one day.... Ioka and Tanaka have been the compelling Japanese fighters, finding their potential, for me.

Very excited about this matchup. Jamie is very solid in all areas, almost like a little Brian Mitchell. Fit, persistent, knows when to turn it on, and varies the attack well. Hope he has his eye on the ball, this time, and that he can have strength at the weight.

Certainly not stiff, has shown variation through his career (his win over Sano was essentially 1 handed boxing masterclass, Taguchi was a war, Hernandez a boxing lesson, Kono a win on the back foot, Boyeaux a seek and destroy performance)

I’ll definitely check out the Taguchi fight. He seems to have been in a few good ones.

Good point. Without any evidence and just on the ‘eye’ test I can see him going up as far as Super Bantam.
He looks like he could fill out a bit more if needed.

Looking forward to this fight, Inoue is good, but I really think McDonnell gives him is hardest test yet. I'm American but I absolutely loves your guys' boxing scene, it has been fire for a few years now. I try to catch all the televised shows, but I never miss a Hearn card.

Inoue has been beating up guys like Takuya Watanabe in sparring and sparred withguys like Genesis Servania so it's not like he's not used to being in the ring with bigger men.
