Atlantic City, New Jersey (March 8, 2018)--Heavyweight Chazz "The Gentleman" Witherspoon is looking for a big fight in the suddenly hot heavyweight division. In order to get into the mix he will need a victory this Saturday night when he takes on veteran Mike Sheppard in in the eight-round main event on at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

The Witherspoon - Sheppard bout will headline a nine-bout card, promoted by Mis Downing Promotions and Silver Spoon Promotions.

Witherspoon, 36-3 with 28 knockouts, is on a six-fight knockout streak, and has not lost in almost six years.

Witherspoon will be making his first start since stopping Carlos Sandoval in the 4th round on October 1, 2016.

In Sheppard, Witherspoon is taking on a veteran, who has fought a handful of top heavyweights.

Last I saw Chazz Witherspoon he was on the ass end of an ass kicking from Arreola...and that was like 10 years ago on a Mayweather undercard if I recall.

Mike Sheppard is the guy that took a dive against James Toney in Toney's final fight.

The real truth is Chazz Witherspoon can barely beat top 100 fighters and is nowhere near the top. Out of his 36 wins only two are against top 100 fighters one ranked 89 the other ranked 99 (according to the Independent world boxing rankings) and he has three losses two against top 50 fighters, the two occasions when he was stepped up. At the age of 36 it is highly unlikely he will get better and more likely that he will be used as fodder for another fighter on the way up.

It would not shock me for Chazz to rack up 2 or 3 wins over questionable opposition and get a top 15 ranking by an alphabet group.

Somebody would have to buy his ranking for him. I don't know that he has anybody around him with the kind of connections to make that happen. They wouldn't bother building him up to feed to somebody else because he has virtually no name recognition amongst fight fans anyway.

Even a hardcore fan like me only recalls seeing him one time. So for most people it'd be "Chazz who?"
