Joey Archer was a very soft hitter with little strength... Losing to Don Fullmer was the pits, a guy with very little ability or boxing skill... Archer was a fair boxer, but I had old Holly Mims beating him by a clear margin. I wasn't amazed when they gave the decision to Archer. I was used to it.. I had Dick Tiger beating him as well - all Joey did was run. His fights with Emile Griffith were close enough that I thought Archer would get them.
Joey would get destroyed by Toney, Nunn, McCallum, Monzon, Jones, Hopkins, Golovkin, or Canelo at 160... He beat a 45-year-old Sugar Ray Robinson... He had Robinson beaten by a mile, but in the final round he chased the ATG around the ring pounding him... It wasn't necessary and was disrespectful. Did he think he was going to get one of his rare KO's?
And no.... He wasn't one of the great boxers of all time.
