Boxing fans have more reason to celebrate this St Patrick’s Day with allegedly to air Michael Conlan’s ring return on the Jose Ramirez v Amir Imam world title card exclusively live this Saturday night.

The 2012 Olympic bronze medalist will take on the heavy handed Hungarian David Berna, who has knocked out 14 opponents in his 15 wins, and will be looking to push on again in 2018.

Jim McMunn, Box-Nation Managing Director, said: “It will be a fantastic sporting weekend for the Irish starting with the Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Friday, a possible Grand Slam in the Six Nations on Saturday, all rounded off with one of their own “Fighting Irish”, Michael Conlan, as he steps into the ring at the legendary Madison Square Garden supported by Irish America on St Patrick’s Day. This is a brilliant card with some serious talent on display. Headlined by two ferocious punchers in Jose Ramirez against Amir Imam for the vacant WBC light-welterweight world title, it will be a bill that promises edge-of-the-seat action from start to finish.”

I think he should be more active.. But looks like he's slowly stepping up.

Yeh. Not really a fight i'd stay up for.

Hopefully Box-Nation put the replay on early Sunday instead of evening.. they surprisingly put Garcia-Lipinets early on Sunday.

I would've preferred the Prograis/Indongo fight to be for the vacant WBC title but this is still a decent fight, ive seen a bit of both guys over the years on undercards but I remember more of Imam, he's a dangerous fast puncher, he did get a beating from Granados though but no disgrace there although at the time it was seen as a big upset but Granados has proven to be a very good fighter

Ive been impressed more with Ramirez though, cant remember seeing him struggle yet and always looks in total control, I can see him KO'n Imam

Imam has got some power in the right hand. I remember Granados got flattened in the first round. 18KOs in 21 fights. I think Ramirez looks open. Not sure what his chin is like. Imam is very dangerous. I favour Imam in this one.

Good to see Conlan closing the card..

I think Imam takes this. He is a dangerous puncher and im not sure Ramirez is as tough as Granados. Imam will fight at his own pace and control a fight. I'm not saying he is the second coming of Monzon or anything but he has decent skills and controls the range. Granados came in looking to rough Imam up from the first bell and was flattened to the canvas inside a minute. It looked like a clean KO to me but he showed toughness that Ramirez hasn't shown to get back up and take it to Imam, roughing him up and getting the win. Granados could take what Imam threw and that's what enabled him to win the fight. I don't know if Ramirez has that toughness. He looks pretty open and reckless to me, and dare I say it - made for Imam.

ive actually seen granados get dropped 7 or 8 times, including 2x by the pretty crap mark salser, so not sure what it means, but imam scored some nasty ktfos against guys other prospects werent stopping or at least not as hard. he clearly has pop and was highly regarded till that loss

ramirez was an olympian and looked good in destroying reed last fight

Yeah if anyone gets bored type Amir Imam KO's into youtube. Some nice examples of a fighter getting starched. He's got some slickness too. Ramirez is pretty basic. The Granados fight is definitely worrying. It looks like Imam hasn't developed his footwork or jab enough. He really relies on his power scaring opponents from getting too reckless and coming forward on him. Granados got in his grill and was willing to take some to land his own. Ramirez may be willing to do the same but if he does that I'm not sure he has the chin, and I think Imam can add another starching to his youtube highlights.

The Case for Ramirez:

While he competed at the 2012 Olympics, Jose Ramirez didn’t come out of the Games with the same expectations as someone like teammate Errol Spence. He was seen as a raw project to develop and develop he has. Ramirez presses the fight but he doesn’t do so without thought. His jab has become a smart weapon. It’s not always the quickest, but he sticks with it and can turn it over into a hook suddenly. Ramirez works the body well and, to date, has been a good finisher. In Imam he has a fighter who can match his height and he can’t afford to let Imam get comfortable in being first. That might not be easy. If the quicker Imam starts to bank some rounds, Ramirez can’t get frustrated into mistakes. Imam can punch. Ramirez can too and showed real finishing chops in his last outing against the undefeated Mike Reed. He knows Imam was down against Fidel Maldonado and stopped by Adrian Granados. Imam often fights out of the pocket and that could play to Ramirez’s advantage if he stays patient.


The Case for Imam:

Imam has serious punching power and can show off good defensive technique. The difference between being a teammate of Ramirez’s at the 2012 Games was Imam’s inability to defeat Spence; his foundation is solid. With two fights in 2017, the most recent in November, inactivity shouldn’t be too big an issue. Much of Imam’s chances could come down to his mental approach. If he has shaken off the Granados loss, a fight where he took a lot of leather, he will find Ramirez hittable. Imam fights taller than Ramirez does and that could help the New Yorker get some nice leverage on his right hand. While much has been made of Imam’s vulnerability, Ramirez was on the floor against unheralded Johnny Garcia in 2015. If Ramirez starts to land will Imam go back to his lone loss and wilt under the pressure? Or does he plant his feet and find a needed career saver?

Not good enough to watch live for me so will watch the show from the beginning about 8am tomorrow.

flanagan vs verdejo looked like it was going to happen at one point when verdejo still had hyped but was already looking vulnerable ....tel missed a great opportunity there, i think he wouldve done it
