Tyson blamed Nat Fleischer and Walcott for the fck up... The neutral corner rule dictated a suspended count.
Liston wasn't intent on finding a soft spot to rest his head... He wanted to win very badly... His plan was to have Ali waste a lot of energy and get him in the late rounds... The way Ali was burning energy it might have worked... Liston was old, but a great Heavyweight... No reason in the world why he still couldn't be competitive with Ali if he avoided an injury... The way Liston slipped and ducked all of Ali's follow up punches following the knock down show his reflexes were intact.Flump wrote: ↑07 Apr 2018, 07:35Kalan wrote: ↑07 Apr 2018, 01:32 One thing I agreed with Tyson and I know he got this from Cus D'Amato because Cus defended Liston at hearings -- but to no avail... That is correct, Walcott was inept and why he felt the need to pay any attention to Fleischer shows that he was ill equipped to deal with the situation. The count should have stopped, allowing Liston to get up and either get slapped around with ease as he had through most of his and Ali's time together, or to find another comfy spot on the canvas to rest his head on.
I remember this program, Tyson apparently asked Harry Carpenter for his autograph afterwards.
Yeah any rational person can see that.Kalan wrote: ↑07 Apr 2018, 16:25Liston wasn't intent on finding a soft spot to rest his head... He wanted to win very badly...
