Getting absolutely dominated by a journeyman. Probably a -5000 favorite. Didn’t even know he was fighting today. No idea why anyone thought this guy was a future champ. Looks terrible every time I watch him.

hasnt looked good in years. last fight or the one before some pretty bad opponent hurt him and gave him hell, and that guy had been destroyed early by both uchiyama and berchelt down at 130

His only shot of winning this decision is a clear robbery which won’t happen since Top Rank has already given up on him and won’t bother paying judges to prolong a lost cause fighter.

Was only -3000. Not bad. Oddsmakers finally catching on that he sucks.

he got TKO'd...
Verdejo just offensive minded... nothing more... just not hungry enough too... Lozada a tough Mx with heavy hands broke him... Lozada'S chin was a ? after being down a few times but now i think it's Verdejo'S pop who is ?

Sometimes you aren’t surprised to see a -3000 lose. That’s the funny thing about this sport. Sometimes it’s unheard of. Other times you almost expect it.

In Verdejo'S case it was to be expected... any 100% offensive oriented fighter is bound to lose at some point

Verdejo had talent but something in his focus always looked off. He would come out and dominate for the first couple of rounds and then sort of coast on basic athleticism and movement (jab, jab, cross and slide).
It's too bad it doesn't look like he will realize his potential. If he could put it all together, I think he could have been (still be?) really good.

I'd say it's more like "He doesn't have the potential people were trying to tell themselves he had". He could still have his moments and improve obviously. He's still young, but he was definitely given a promotional push that he wasn't capable of living up to.

Right. He was used to cans falling over early. When he started fighting guys who didn’t fold early and actually punched back he said uh oh, now what. And he never even stepped up to the contender level. Imagine what those guys would do to him?
