Michael Conlan

Was anyone else really impressed with this last outing? For the past year I have been doubtful his skills would translate to the pros. But his last fight he looked patient, precise and with his feet firmly planted on his punches.
I am beginning to think he may be able to grow into a fun factor in an exciting division

His opponent looked like a midget compared to him. Let's wait till he steps up skill and size wise.

I like the cut of his jib. He seems to have the same effect on our American friends, the crowd support surprised me. Good on him if he can put bums on seats over there, a UK/USA crossover fighter is good for boxing. If he can maintain momentum and be matched outside Lilliput against normal sized humans- all the better.

All the hype arround this guy is just because he showed middle finger at olympics. IMO he will get exposed like Verdejo

He looked like he was progressing last night.
How much remains to be seen.
In previous fights I was unimpressed with Conlan.
For some reason when I see him, I think of a pint-sized Doug Dewitt.
Hopefully he'll be more successful but I still have doubts.
Maybe just too much hype about his Irish roots. It overshadows whether he truly has enough substance and talent.
Maybe that's what TR wants.

Conlon is on the fast track. At this point he seems to be toying with his competition. I think he will get into the world title hunt within 2 years which is an extremely fast path from amateur to contender. I like his new trainer Booth alot. The hype is real.

I'm 100% Italian and by no means a Mick but I love Irish boxers and Irish fans as the sport is a better place when there's significant players from Ireland involved.

his opposition has been bleh. would like to see an almost 27 year old world amateur champ/2x olympian moved faster. hes been matched at the same level 6 years younger shakur stevenson has.
btw i said it on another thread, but pretty much every hungarian i see box is awful. there are some okay ones but for the most part the hungarians are used to pad records

Good point that I hadnt considered. That is very significant when both are promoted by Bob Arum. Dont know why Top Rank isnt moving him faster but they need to start soon.

No, they don't.
Mick is ticking over nicely and they are gradually moving up level of opposition. Even at that, I daresay he will be fighting for World Championships by the summer of 2020.

Thought in his first few he was over eager to fight with that Mexican style in order to be entertaining. Moved to Adam Booth now who is good at getting his fighters to pick their shots well and throw in perhaps less volume, but with more power. Hopefully Booth's cerebral influence and Conlan's natural ability and ability to have a tear up can gel together nicely.

I noticed him picking his shots better this time out. Very nice accuracy against a mobile (if small) opponent.

By summer 2020 Mick will have been pro over 3 years. Top Rank had Floyd fighting for a world title in less than 2 years at age 21. Oscar won his first world belt at age 20, just 17 months after turning pro.
Why would they not have the much older Conlan fighting for a world title sooner than 3+ years at age 28?
I'm not saying Mick is another Oscar or Floyd, but think Top Rank can afford to be more ambitious than they are, especially given his age. I hope the European tradition of an extra long amateur career doesnt come back to haunt Mick Conlan.

Don't talk shite mate! Yeah the Olympic stuff raised his profile in the media but he's an undoubted talent and was a top amatuer with solid fundamentals.

Maybe if his name was Conlonowski and he wore a daft wee half ball hat on the top of his nut you'd change your tune

You talk pretty good Yank-oriented trash-talk for a Brit (I assume).
I grew up in Pittsburgh and lived there until I was 16. The Steel City is famous for factory-working East Europeans (Poles, Croatians, etc) but then you apparently know that already.

Are you going to take that?
Did Mel Gibson do nothing for your national pride?
