The Jab

I have been part of many, shall we say debates, specifically about the GGG vs Canelo fight and people's argument was Canelo out hit GGG with the power shots. However, I bring up the fact that GGG outlanded Canelo by 50 jabs and the view is a jab doesn't mean much to them....so I like to throw out the fact that one of the great HW champs Lennox Lewis made a career with the jab, but I can't seem to find the evidence online of total punch stats to support it (it's by memory of watching many of his fights that I base my argument, but that doesn't put the final nail in those that think the jab is useless) so can anyone direct me to his career punch stats?

I remember at the conclusion of the Rahman rematch Jim Lampley said something about "He averaged 30 or 40 jabs a round in this fight, and when he's working the jab like that you can't handle him"
It doesn't always have to land consistently, but it's one of the most important weapons a Boxer can have in his arsenal to have an effective jab.

Groves eubank was a great example of this. The jab controlled the flow of the fight even when it was missing.

Most important punch , jab dictates pace, sets more spiteful shots up, upsets your opponents rhythm, good way to judge distance , a beautiful jab is a joy to watch

Wladimir was the master of the jab, he would just paw it out there keeping his opponent at range and setting up his hammer right hand.

agreed....... such a dynamic punch too, can be thrown from a defensive position by the head or from low down by the leading leg and really defines the style of a fighter.

You're right mate, lots of different ways to use the jab to compliment your style
