Riddick Bowe vs Deontay Wilder

2 big swingers.

Prime vs Prime,

Bowe of his Holyfield fight #1 shape against Wilder in his version, which we have recently seen in the Ortiz fight.

Who would you pick to win, how and why?

I would pick the Wilder of his 1st Stiverne fight to go against Bowe... Wilder looked damned weak against Ortiz... He had a stomach virus or something going into the fight... I think he murders Bowe if he's tip-top shape.

Holyfield also looked very weak in the 1st Bowe fight, only weighing 205 and ready to drop... Evander muscled up like crazy for their rematch.. He fought a much better fight and won... I think Evander was sick or something for the 1st Bowe fight... Holyfield had trouble staying healthy for important fights... He was ill for Moorer 1... Bowe 1 and 3.... and for Chris Byrd.

Wilder is a lot faster than Bowe and he punches a lot harder... And he's a better boxer... Bowe was wide open and ducked fights with Lewis, Tyson, Mercer, McCall, Ruddock, Tua. and about every big puncher of his day.

Wilder is higher, he has a reach advantage, he can time right hand very well and here the list of his advantages ends.

Bowe was a very good inside fighter and in addition to that he didn't tend to brawl so careless, as Wilder does. Wilder was caught not a single time by smaller boxers, than Bowe was, so Riddick wouldn't have any problems in reaching Wilder out and battering him inside.

Bowe would have mauled Wilder down in 8-10 rounds.

Bowe, much better fundamentals, much better fighter. 5/6 rounds tops.

Bowe by easy KO

Topics like this are always about nostalgia gone berserk... Bowe had terrible fundamentals and was a poor boxer...

Watch the Herbie Hide fight... Hide was a small Heavyweight with no chin, poor power, and little strength.... Hide ended up at Cruiserweight.. But Hide was quick like Wilder.. For 3 rounds the Dancing Destroyer was punching Bowe with the kitchen sink.. If Hide could hit Bowe on the chin so easily Wilder could hit him 5 X harder.. There is no question at all that Wilder is the better boxer and doesn’t leave his chin out there like Bowe.

Golota was a slow, plodding, inept fighter.... The only top guy Golota looked good against was Bowe.... Brewster, Tyson, and Louis smashed Golota into the canvas quickly... Grant was so slow he couldn't get out of his own way -- but eventually he got hard punches on Golota.... Bowe got hit so much he blew out early --at a younger age than Wilder is right now.

I have one question... When did Bowe actually get into the ring with a big puncher??? Lewis?... Tyson?.... Mercer?... Tua?.... McCall?.... even Ruddock? .... He might have beaten Ruddock actually -- because he was slow and couldn't box -- but that's the only guy who could hit he'd have a chance against....and maybe Tommy Morrison... But he's not beating Wilder.

Bowe for me right now .......mainly because we have probably not seen what a 'prime' Wilder might actually be capable of.

Feasting-off fringe contenders and beating the so-so Stiverne makes it hard to tell what Deontay genuinely has in the locker and frankly his resume is less than stellar.

If he gets in with Joshua and they have a proper fight for all the belts - and Deontay gives AJ hell - then we get something resembling a yardstick.

You got the answer from Luis Ortiz... Wilder weathered significant punishment from a big Heavyweight who can box and punch... He avoided a KO blow in the most critical moment... He was cool... Bowe never faced anyone like Ortiz.

Bowe weathered significant punishment from big, strong, non-puncher Andrew Golota -- one of the clumsiest punching bags who's ever been ranked -- and a man who lost to Michael Grant... That wasn't the same level test.

Bowe beat an underweight, skinny looking 205-pound Holyfield in their 1st fight... After getting floored he finished off a Holyfield who was obviously having some kind of physical issue or suffering from health issues in their 3rd fight.... I don't think that was a super big test either... Evander imploded.... The big, tough 230-plus heavyweights with big punches and big size, like Mercer, McCall, Tua, and Lewis -- Bowe never got in with them.

I have to agree. If one actually imagines Bowe against Mercer...that says it all, IMO.

Bowe by murder.

Wilder by a rather quick KO of a wide open Bowe.... That Bowe chin was a big, fat, extremely inviting target.

Especially for a quick right hand that's punching down on the sucker... Bowe never saw one like that.

WTF do you want??? .... Wilder knocked them out... He fought 39 different guys and stopped them ALL.

Bowe couldn't stop Eddie Gonzales.... Couldn't stop Billy Zumbrun... Couldn't stop Gene Pukall... Couldn't stop Tony Tubbs

Bowe fought a small Kickboxer... The little mother kicked the living shitt out of Bowe and stopped him... Andrew Golota got knocked out very quickly by every top fighter he ever fought -- except Bowe.

Agreed. Perfect response to the posts here. What more do want? 40-0/39 ko's The only one to go the distance got slugged out in less than a round. Don't love him, fine...but show respect. Nice!

When you have a really big hitter like Wilder.... And you match him with a guy you can sucker punch like Bowe???

It's like Lewis-Golota..... or Tyson-Williams.... or Dempsey Fulton.... or Tua-Ruiz... or Tua Moorer.... or McCall-Maskaev

By the time the sound of the opening bell fades away the thing is over..... Better not reach for some chips and dip.

Clear as a bell (no pun intended). Bowe had three positive performance, all against a very game overblown Cruiserweight. The Golota fights were a joke. He was totally exposed (save the low-blows). No contest here.

lmao because wilder is 40-0 (39) we have to pick him to destroy bowe? come on man! reality is that deontay has beaten like 2 top 10 fighters his whole career, and one of them nearly stopped him and shouldve been comfortably up on the cards.

and i like wilder a lot, but some of the stuff in here is truly laughable. 'clear as a bell'? , omfg

and i just noticed a totally shot bowes loss to a kickboxer who beat the shit out of his legs got brought up,, ya because that has really bearing on how a boxing match between prime bowe and wilder wouldve gone

ya, clear as a bell, so clear that deontay would bomb out bowe early in the nature of all those fights

but of course he couldnt do it to eric molina, artur szpilka, johan duhaupas, shot chris arreola, luis ortiz, or gerald washington. and of course he needed two tries to do it to stiverne, with bermane being a totally unmotivated, inactive fatty for the rematch

but ya, the evidence is clearly stacked towards wilder quickly destroying bowe

Bowe however he wants to. Either wide decision or KO. The best Bowe was extremely good. Unfortunately he was seen quite often nowhere near his best.

i mean , fine picking wilder, im not lmao at that, but the use of evidence from you and kalan is truly tantamount to an abortion

apparently its clear as day that wilder would do a tua-ruiz job on bowe, even though he couldnt even do one on eric molina or shot chris arreola or artur szpilka or johan duhaupas etc

you guys are obviously just fooling around

Right... You see.... Lewis didn't bomb Mavrovic (unknown and unheralded) out early... He was a fairly bright guy.

Mav wasn’t the kind of opponent you could plow through.. He wasn’t a doofus-ass like Bowe.. You have to understand the mentality of these less than sharp individuals like Bowe.. He was scared of punchers, freezing like Patterson.

Andrew Golota was doofus too... Ruddock and Grant were wide open as Hell... Lewis shittcanned them in a couple rounds as he would have done to Bowe... They were better known and higher ranked than Mavrovic – but ice-jobs in waiting.
