don't know what to make of this, maybe he will go pro after all

I think he will turn pro, a lot of the story's we have heard from Khan since the olympics have been about money. It's obvious to me that it is a driving factor for him.

And now he is meeting up with promoters? I think it is a dead cert he is going pro. The lull of the money is going to be too great imo.

Yes, money seems to be very much the agenda, a request for a photo shoot recently for our magazine was met with a demand for payment from the agency managing his affairs.

So, did you pay them?

I'd like to see Khan stay on as an amatuer but, even if he does that, he needs money. If he decides to go pro then fair enough, I suppose. It's he's the one getting punched for a living. Let's just hope he signs with a promoter who will get him meaningful fights.

Looks a cert he'll be turning over now. All that cash on offer, he'd need the willpower of Mahatma Gandhi to resist.

I think I read the other day he was ringside at Hop/DLH, compliments of a certain American promotional outfit ( Arum was it?? ).

Love to see the look on can-do-no-wrong Warren's face if he signed with the Americans.

Entirely, the man has a right to make money, I just hope that his career is well managed. It's a big transition from amateur to pro these days, and he's still a growing lad. I would be quite happy to see him go to the states and get some tough schooling in the gyms over there, but it would be a big jolt for a lad who seems to have a pretty tight family unit.

i can understand it if he went pro, if someone offers you a laod of cash as a signing on bonus. that can set you up for life.

but being selfish i would prefer it if he stayed in the amatuers, would love to see him go for the gold in Bejing,

If he does go pro and it doesn't work out, then he will have big regrets about turning codes so early

If he turns pro I'm sure someone said we'd be suprised by who the trainer would be....

Nope - no man of mystery on this one.

Ijust have a vague memory of someone on here saying his choice of pro trainer would surprise people...for the life of me I cannot remember who.

Good point...we've seen stranger bed fellows in boxing though. Don King in 1980's South Africa for instance....

Has Arum never promoted a Muslim fighter? And what about Mickey Duff?

Not that surprised to be fair its going to be differicult for him when people are dangling large cheques under his eyes and the next Olympics are so far away that he may do so. We have had the most successful amateur period for years in the last four years with Harrison, Froch and Haye as well as Khan winning medals at World or Olympic level but neither of the first three have had smooth pro careers so far. I think that Froch and Haye maybe should have waited to the 2004 Olympics before turning pro
but as I said I can understand the temptation.

wow, then he would fight for the famous alphabet-soup titles like WBU, WBF, which are very popular in Britain.......

he should sign with Kohl who has now a lot of young amateur prospects under contract. his fighters fight for real world titles when they are ready. Grigorian would also be a good mentor for him. Abdulaev might be muslim as well

Good decision. As I said, I don't believe he should link up with Arum.

I can't see why people are so bothered if he turns pro. The kid should do what he feels is right for HIM. Four more years as an amateur could ruin his professional career. Computer scoring has turned amateur boxing into a sport that differs considerably from it's professional brother. You can become too much of a scoring machine technician.

allegedly could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. Not only that, he could make him hugely popular. I reckon Amir would sell out the M.E.N. just like Hatton. People often slate Frank for his cautious nature. The truth is, he knows the game inside out. He knows what the fighters he manages are capable of and matches them accordingly. If a lad can get to the top, he'll take him there.

I know what I'd do.

The guys who turn pro very early usually burn out very quickly. He'd fight far better guys in the amatuers in the next couple of years than he would if he turned pro and feasted on the same guys Kevin Mitchell is. God it would sicken me to see as classy a fighter as Khan fighting on the same kind of FW shows that Mitchell is. Or even on the same bill as that tosser Kevin Mitchell. Then he'd fight for the WBU title, defend it 20 times while in his prime and not fight a top class fighter until he's past his best.

of course there are many exceptions to this rule. Medina, Morales and Barrera all turned pro around Khan's age or younger, and they have had long and propserous careers. Of course, they have had a very tough apprenticeship in Mexico, which is something khan won't get.

They've just been saying on 5 live that Amir's dad has spoken to them and says he is NOT turning pro and that they are just talkingto different groups, gauging interest, that kind if thing.

Make of that what you will but that's what they just said....
