Sugar Ray Robinson... That wasn't his real name, but the greatest Boxing name ever... It fit Walker Smith to a T.
Jack Dempsey... His name was Harry, but that wouldn't have been as great.
Tom Sharkey... That was a great name for a fighter. I can't explain why I think so. Jack Sharkey sucked.
Jack Johnson... It had a certain authority and ring to it.
Roberto Duran is a name I always liked.
Mickey Walker I thought was a great name for a fighter.
Max Baer was a good one.
George Foreman is a really terrific name.
Billy Conn was a really great name for a clever boxer.
Jack Dillon is a name I always liked... Sounded tough like the outlaw John Dillinger.
Jack Blackburn is a name I like... I don't know why Jack is such a great name for a fighter... Jack Hood is another.
Ingemar Johansson had possibilities... It was a glamorous name.
Les Darcy is a name I liked.
Luther McCarty wasn't a bad name.
Jess Willard was a great name... I Hate to say it because he was such a total shitt fighter.
Gentleman Jim Corbett was a great name
John L. Sullivan was a terrific name for a legendary Heavyweight.

Proud Kilimanjaro.
Somewhat brilliantly Proud was a decent-ish Zimbabwean heavyweight born just outside Harare and to the best of my knowledge he was not even remotely connected with that huge Tanzanian volcano or even that country.
But the name is a classic - it just works on a poster - and when I was bored I looked-up Proud's ring record and smiled.
He faced fellow Zimbo fighters including Black Tiger, King Power, Walter Ringo Starr, Jukebox Timebomb and King Motsi and a very cheeky chappy with a truly abysmal record who called himself George Foreman
Sadly, by the time Proud got himself noticed all the bonkers names fall away and he got stopped by Chanet, Notice and Currie. Although he would have another encounter with his old nemesis Black Tiger late in the day.
Randy and Dick Turpin are also unusual and have a certain comedic value; but I suspect most of those who faced these formidable brothers from Leamington Spa would have had other things on their minds.

Whilst the names themselves are not out of the ordinary, a boxer by the name of Bill Sliney has on his record 2 of the most recognisable names in modern popular culture and they are not namesakes, check it out

Everybody has their favorite drink... Maybe he poured it in an ice cube tray and made popsicles.
