Can’t be a fighter thats more frustratingly inactive than Bertebiev?

Rumours he’ll fight Browne in June.... due to politics have we missed out on a fighter who could’ve given us the most exciting fights in boxing ?

I thought Kovalev was fighting Browne? Yeah, Beterbiev is turning into a case of "what could've been." You can thank Al Gaymon and his cronies for that.

Beterbiev should've gotten with a better manager/promoter. He'd be on top of the game if he had enough sense to sign with Top Rank.

beterbievs a crude slugger. got power no doubt but will fall short vs the best.

dont know whats with beterbievs lack of fights. he had by far the most momentum early in his career when he destroyed cloud and campillo. ya, past there best, but still good results for a new pro. but now for years hes just stagnated.

A shame to see such a promising fighter wasting his career with inactivity.

Supposedly he was really getting hoses and was refusing to fight.

His inactivity isn't as bad as his lack of quality opposition. For years, I had to hear that this guy was going to be some sort of divisional conqueror, better than Kovalev. Okay, well his best opponent in his last four fights was barely on the borderline of the top 20. So... I don't think he's going to do anything to validate that level of absurd hype.

Well he's another guy who gets a lot of hype and expectations, but he's still just a 12 fight pro so you still have to be careful with him.

On the other hand, despite his young career, Beterbiev is 33, so it's time to push him and let him sink or swim.

Agewise, he's not a baby.

I have to admit I havent followed him much lately since his "hiatus" started but has he turned down specific quality opponents? I thought it was more promotional/managerial issues that had him on the shelf, but apparently I've missed something.

His lame Canadian promoter, Yvon Meeeshell, turned down an offer to fight Kovalev in Russia, for 3 belts! Pretty much says it all.

On the flipside, being part of the PBC, Beterbiev was getting million dollar paydays to fight bums. So he couldn't be too unhappy with the Haymon model of overpaying fighters to fight once or twice a year at best. Seems to be just having problems with Michel.

KOd cloud in 2 in his 6th fight
Won IBF title in his 12th fight

Not bad form. His opponents in his first 12 haven’t been as bad as his inactivity IMO. Only fought twice in 22months

He got $235k for his last fight (IBF title fight)

Not finding anything through a quick search. I just remember some pretty significant number in line with all PBC events at the time.

Doubt he made a million for any of his fights. Nowhere near .

i think when a kov fight was offered it was reported as something like 500k us plus ppv or tv money (from russia?). that was reported that it would be a career high payday

now that could be wrong, but i didnt get the impression he was already favoured enough by the pbc/gym squad to be on the 'almost a million no matter the opponent' list. i dont think he was even headlining for a number of his fights.
