I noticed that Ortiz has been suspended by the NYSAC from 3/3/2018 forward (no end yet). Anyone know the story there? Serious responders only please.

It occurred on the day of the fight. Was it medical? or Pedical?

Now I see Wilder too is on suspension. WTH?

Maybe it is an automatic suspension for a certain period after a fight, so that boxers can't fight too often?

Many states routinely suspend a fighter if he's knocked out.

The suspension length varies by state. It's often mandatory for between 60 to 90 days. I believe that it's also supposed to include no sparring during that period.

As to why Wilder is suspended. That would be a mystery.

Strange is right. To not be able to get information on it is a bit disturbing, or...I'm making something out of nothing.

It sounds like standard medical suspensions after a bad knockout and brutal head assault/near knockout suffered by Ortiz and Wilder,respectively. Both those guys got their brains rattled good ( unlike that shit show in the UK, dreadful) would be surprised if they didn't get short suspensions that's pretty standard protocol hopefully thats all it is. New York badly fucked up regarding another heavyweight in Mago, they can't afford another fornicate up like that.

Well, why there's no question that a KO defeat automatically leads to a safety-related suspension, BoxRec also lists Ortiz as having been suspended on two other occasions.

The Quebec Boxing Commission slapped him with a 1 week suspension from June 20 2015 to June 27 2015.

And California issued him a 6 day suspension back in 2014.

Obviously Ortiz wasn't knocked out on those occasions.

Failed drug tests? But why so short?

BoxRec also shows that Wilder has been suspended a whopping 9 times in his career, including the current indefinite one in New York.

Ohio suspended him for 90 days as far back as 2009.

And Nevada slapped him with a 181 day suspension in 2015. Interestingly, that suspension went into effect the day he KOd Stiverne to win the WBC title.

It would be nice if reasons were reported as to why the state issue this frequent suspensions.

BTW, California also issued Golovkin two 1 week suspensions back in 2014 and 2015. We need to learn why states seem to randomly suspend fighters and exactly what is the criteria besides safety reasons.

Many of them are suspended for injuries suffered in a fight. Pick a top fighter and you'll find he's been on medial suspension, even Floyd Mayweather.

Every top fighter on Boxrec has medical suspensions.

Ortiz got KO'd (mandatory suspension in many areas). Wilder got the controversial doctor check-up during the fight because of wobbly legs, and I suppose that might be a mandatory suspension in New York.

these happen all the time, a lot of places will give suspensions to guys win or lose. they can still take shots in a win so there given a cautionary period where they cant fight. in some places its automatic i think. the suspensions being day of the fight would leave me to believe there medical.

A 90 days suspension after a world titlefight is relatively normal, if you have a world titlefight every day you probably won't become old. A 181 one is quite odd, somehow and unless the other boxer send you to hospital for months, like Arreola did, a indefinite suspension is odd, but maybe part of the trick to avoid fighting top contenders as much as possible.
On top of that, the Americans will probably don't appriciate it if Luis Ortiz fights anyone else, because that might proof Ortiz is nothing special any more. I for example was strongly disappointed with his performance against Wilder. Now I can understand it if a heart patient that isn't allowed to use his medicines shows a worser performance as normal, but this bad? He actually lost against Wilder?! I expect him to lose against any fair competition from now on.
