Jarrett Hurd Vacates IBO Belt!!

2nd boxer this year after Groves.. IBO have updated their website apparently..
The sanctioning fee for that belt would have been $15,000.. Hurd was paid $500k..

The IBO Belt isn't one that matters. If The sanctioning fee was even 100 dollars I wouldn't pay it if I were a fighter.
Especially a fighter that already has more prestigious titles as is.

Hurd is already a legit unified champion with the WBA and IBF belts..
It's kinda like why Groves may have vacated. He wasn't really a unified champion with the WBA amd IBO.

I doubt Hurt would have been asked to pay more than £5k of his £500k purse...

Good for him. Sanctioning fees are a scam.

Especially for the 5th most important "World Championship" belt in a Sport already polluted with too many belts.

Honestly is it any worse than any of the others? If anything IBO rankings are more sensible than the others.
Bottom line is that they're all worthless, in approximately equal measure.

Not all the time. We've gotten some great fights because of mandatories. IBO is easily the one that matters least. Not even worth the sanctioning fees.

The IBO belt.
I'm surprised that Hurd even remembered that he now owns it.
A matchup with Charlo is much more significant than holding the IBO strap.
Fans nowadays remember fighters, not the cheap jewelry that adorns them.

My point is that none of them matter. Even if he vacated every belt, would it make Hurd any less of a fighter?
Mandatories are only a good thing if your rankings are coherent.

Good move Jarrett. IBO has been a scam since day one...I'm surprised it hasnt gone the way of the WBF.

As I said, we got a lot of good fights because of mandatories. Sometimes the rankings are good and we get fights that would've probably never happened. So yeah, they do matter in some cases.
If Hurd vacated every belt, it'd be a rather dumb move. You make more money with belts and helps with negotiating pay. Only ones that don't need it are guys that are huge draws, Pacquiao, Canelo, Mayweather, etc.

The currency was in dollars.
Having to pay out $45K to the IBF, WBA & IBO must be pretty painful, when it represents 9% of your total purse before any deductions have been made.

We've had some good fights cause of mandatories. We've also had tons of absolute garbage mandatories because ABC rankings make zero sense and nobodies get gifted #1 contender status all the time, probably because their promoter greased the right palms.
Mandatories are only a good thing if the rankings they're based on are good. And most of the time, they're not.

How do you pay for running the organisations? Strangely the IBO whilst maybe the 5th are by far the best in terms of honesty and fairness and is the one fans should harness and not diss. They have the lowest run costs.
It will be a big blow to the IBO losing Groves and Hurd, both universal number 1s they would have Joshua, Groves, Golovkin and Hurd.
BTW you would pay $5000 sanction fee if the TVs paid you $10000....it just depends which promoter/tv co you work with.

fighters like Joshua or Golovkin keep IBO belts only because they want to look better at face to face

If the IBO were stronger and had more support a lot of the problems in boxing would be solved.
There are no nasty people in the IBO.
It is hard for them to get past minds that already made up and don't have the ability to understand. They actually are in favour of most of the things the fans want.

Obviously I didn't know that. I bunched all of them up in the same tampon.

How do you pay for running the organizations? What do the organizations even do? I could run one out of my apartment and just use the BoxRec ratings and it would be more legitimate to what we have now.

thats not so far off how the IBO works. IBO do use Boxrec rankings now but it used to cost them more money before. The website, the newsletter, secretary, flights, travel, lodge, insurance, legal costs, office costs. I am not 100% on this but the wage bill might be as low as $200k.

Physically sending a supervisor to sanction a title fight, that comes with travel and lodging costs. Travel and lodge for judges and referee when applicable. Physically making the championship belt.

Yep, IBO isn't any worse than any other org, its actually better. But as I say, the same people who claim "none of the belts matter" are the same ones obsessed with singling out the IBO. Apparently it (belts) does matter, lol.
The WBO and IBO were founded literally the same year. The only reason one is considered a "recognized" major title and the other isn't, is because Warren and Sky Sports pushed the WBO as a world title in the UK throughout since the 90s. But there were undisputed world champions who held a IBO belt before one ever held a WBO belt. It was only in 2004, when Hopkins unified the WBO belt with his existing undisputed title (WBA, WBC, IBF) that the WBO became recognized in the US.
If the IBO was in bed with promoters like the WBO or the other bodies, they would have been a recognized major title by now. Or if they were giving out free belts to established champions, which is how the IBF got on. But the IBO abstained from that, and continues to conducts itself professionally. That should be commended, not maligned.

Hurd must have changed his opinion, or perhaps someone else was telling him not to get it before but since then he's been listed on the IBO website, and has updated his own Twitter to list himself as "IBF/WBA/IBO Champion of the World".
