The Ring states that a champion can be stripped if "The Champion tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance".

I havent seen a copy of RING for a long time, so I didnt even know they had Canelo as RING world champ!!

Because Canelo & GGG had a DRAW when they fought, the mere fact that Golden Boy owns RING magazine and doesnt show the MW title as VACANT represents a massive CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

If GBP is that crooked I dont imagine they will strip Clenelo even though he tested positive for Clenbuterol.

Doug Fischer stated a couple of weeks ago that if Canelo received any kind of suspension, he WOULD be stripped and removed from the rankings.

As much as I feel Ring do favour GBP fighters a lot of the time, Doug is usually a man of his word. I think he'll be stripped at the end of the month.

No he won't, but I wish he would be. This PED 'stuff' needs to end somewhere and a larger suspension and stripping of Canelos' title would be one step in the right direction.

I assume Doug is a RING staffer. Hope he's right!!

RING magazine's credibility is on the line here.

They didn't strip Tyson Fury, and he admitted taking a banned substance. And was subsequently banned.
Or have I got that wrong?

Oscar owns the Ring so he is not gonna strip his own fighter. That Ring belt is gonna be staples to Canelo for life. (as long as he's with Golden Boy at least)

Not only he will not be stripped, but he can now juice freely for a couple of months without a risk of being tested.

Editor of ring online. He said it a reply to a fan in the twice weekly mailbag he does.

Fury didn't actually get officially suspended until after he was already stripped for inactivity, as far as I can remember. Or at least suspended just before he was stripped.

He spent a lot of time basically in pergatory.

OK, thanks.
I wasn't sure. I thought he was Ring Magazine linal champion for ages after the Wlad fight.

Yeah that's true, he was, but due to long drawn out legal proceedings, he wasn't actually suspended until the end of 2017. The suspension was then backdated.

Ring didn't strip him for ages, because UKAD dragged their feet over making a ruling.

They finally stripped Fury because of inactivity.

Fury wasn't stripped until February of this year. Ring is a joke.

In all fairness, Michael Spinks was RING MAGAZINE champion for nearly two years on the basis that he was LINEAL CHAMPION despite having been stripped in 1987.

RING could have and should have kept Fury as the lineal champion, especially when he was showing effort to get back into shape and making all these moves to launch his comeback.

Whilst it’s possible, perhaps even very likely, that The RING will strip Canelo of their title; Doug Fischer admitted yesterday in his mailbag that the NSAC conceded their belief that the Mexican accidentally ingested clenbuterol via tainted beef.

And according to the NSAC’s own rules, it’s mandatory for them to issue bans, regardless of the reason, so they had to suspend Canelo despite the circumstances that led to the positive test result, but The RING doesn’t have such restrictions on their policy.

When Francisco Vargas tested positive for the same banned substance, citing precisely the same contaminated beef excuse, he escaped punishment. In that situation, The RING’s Editorial Board decided to use their own discretion and retain him in their rankings.

The situation might change in the next day or so and I could be ultimately proven wrong, but it’s been six days since the NSAC served Canelo with a six months ban and the Mexican is still The RING champion.

Don't their ratings panel meet on a monthly basis? If Canelo is going to be stripped, I'd expect it would happen after being put to a vote in said meeting, rather than instantly.

I expect we'll hear a decision next week.

No, he won it from Cotto. Just nonsense.
