Hairy as Hell

 ..... I can't think of the last time I've seen a boxer have any damn chest hair  and I have to wonder if it's because these people shave or wax instead of going out looking like a man's man.

In the 1950s and prior there was alot of guys who were hairy as hell like Petey Sarron and Marcel Cerdan. :TU: Was it just commonplace then or was it just because they were Italian and French or some other ethnicity?

The only guy who comes to mind in the last decade or so who was hairy was Nicolai Valuev.

Argentian Middleweight Juan Domingo Roldan had a hairy chest.

Peter McNeeley had a lot of chest hair back in the 1990's.

Back in "The Fabulous Fifties" a hairy chest was a sign a Virility back then.
HW Champ Rocky Marciano and Middleweight Champ Carmen Basilio had hairy chests.

George"The Animal" Steele was really hairy from what I remember when I use to watch wrestling on TV back in the 1970's..
always heard some '"oooohs" and even an occasional yuck when he came into the ring by some.

Ha ha.... That's because you're not a boxing fan...You don't know or follow any fighters... Especially Eastern Europeans.. There's literally thousands of boxers with hair on their chest -- unless you never watch a fight or are freakin' blind.

Murat Gassiev not only has a lot of impressive masculine hair on his chest... but also on his face.

He's 24 years old, 26-0, and a devastating body puncher... Marciano would be a 3-round job for Gassiev... Unlike Marciano, his nose isn't all over his face -- and he doesn't fight any Light Heavyweights.

1930's Middle-weight champion
Marcel Thil (France)
and LH champion Melio Bettina were both really hairy.
but at least Bettina had a head full of hair to distract from his otherwise hairyness.

Valuev had that massive shaven scalp............but he also had a feckin' rug on his back and all over the front and back of his arms as well. A Persian Carpet that happened to box.

Big Nick had an acre of body hair and because he looked - well a bit simian in the first place - Haye who almost certainly 'waxed' could not resist a comment or two.

I have been a lifelong boxing fan, tyvm. Just because I don't see fights from Eastern Europe doesn't mean I ain't a boxing fan. WTF.

Well if you actually watched fights you'd see a lot of hairy chested boxers... So you must be blind.

I don't think having to more than go out of my way to watch Eastern European boxing, proves that you're a boxing fan more than me or anyone else.

I watch HBO, ESPN, and alot of cards here in North America and Great Britain where boxing actually matters.

But if you watching Czechs, Yugoslavians, Bulgarians, Romanians, etc with hairy sweaty chests who'll probably never make it to the world stage gets you amped up then hey more power to you.

Doesn't get ME amped up... I didn't create this thread...

And Eastern Europeans are frequently on British and American cards... You needn't go out of your way to watch them.. And Boxing really does matter in Russia, Ukraine, and other Eastern European countries.

Plus, if you don't think Murat Gassiev is in the world stage you're not following Boxing... When we're talking about world class Eastern Europeans, we're talking about Ukrainians and Russians more than Romanians and Czechs... Eastern European boxers are on American TV all the time because they ARE world class and they ARE good.

Murat Gassiev knocked Isiah Thomas out on Spike TV for instance... Levan "Wolfman" Ghvamichava has been on TV a couple times and he's one of the hairiest guys I've ever seen... I'm not on the lookout for hairy guys -- but since you are and you're a Boxing fan, I'd think that you'd have a nice list of them by now...

I have a rule... If I can't pronounce your name, and if you haven't beaten someone of absolute worth and ability... I don't follow what they do.

It's like a friend of mine who goes on and on about flyweights and featherweights, etc. and I tell him: "They may well be the pound for pound best boxer on the planet, but considering they're under 147 and live in places like Thailand and Indonesia, they'll never have the fanfare they deserve." Admittingly I don't watch them.

So if a man is the best boxer on the planet -- but doesn't get the recognition he deserves cuz he lives in the 3rd World -- you're going to deprive yourself of the enjoyment of watching his artistry in action??? ... Makes no sense.

Your friend sounds like the more intelligent and open minded viewer... He's getting more bang for his buck.
