id like to go to live pro fights, to get a different look from just watching videos
back when i boxed as an amateur i was at the am cards, but have never gone to pros
is it an okay environment for someone who wants to avoid confrontation and might go alone? how does the atmosphere change with the type of card, like small hall and progressively up? i dont think id go to the big events like aj though
if this has been discussed feel free to direct me to past threads

I would love to one day attend one of those stadium shows in the UK.
I've been to two Parker fights with a crowd of around 15,000 and that was a total buzz. I can only imagine 80,000
I have enjoyed some small hall shows, but in my neck of the woods they can be a bit rough and sometimes kick off in the crowd.
No matter where in the world you are, I think you can expect three things;
1, Have a great night out
2, Lose your voice
3, Pay way too much for beersies

Depends on who is fighting. Reports from Fury Chisora II suggest the atmosphere was absolutely dire with loads of idiots pretty much doing what they liked.

I've been to a couple shows at the o2 and the atmosphere was decent at both.
The people were relatively friendly, appart from the occasional bit of verbal between Gavin and Mitchell fans.
The only physical encounter i saw was some drunk woman slapping her boyfriend (he looked like he deserved it though).
Not sure it would be so amicable if there were two big ticket sellers from rival cities facing eachother though. I would avoid that type of atmosphere like the plague.

I go to as many live shows as I can, and the atmosphere can vary hugely. But the big stadium events are almost always total sh!t until just before the main event, people just wander around getting pissed up and only a handful are actually watching the boxing.
I’ve been to plenty of shows on my own, in some ways I prefer it as most of my mates don’t like boxing anyway, so I get to concentrate on the fights without making small talk or explaining who the boxers are.
I did make the mistake of taking the missus with me to the Williams-Corcoran fight, where it absolutely kicked off all night, total carnage

The atmosphere can vary massively as has been said.
Generally small halls are filled with friends and family of the boxers on the bill rather than boxing fans, some obviously but certainly not the bulk of the crowd. Generally pleasant if not exciting.
Arena shows are where you will find ‘tough guys’ with ropey instagram eyebrow girlfriends walking around floor level staring at people and sticking their chest out. Often an undercard plays out in an almost empty arena and then full for the main event.
Actual violence is reasonably rare at either.

Remarkable you’ve come out with that! I’ve never once felt intimidated at any show. It does kick off in Manc and Brum, though. If you’re not involved, no problems.

All depends on whos fighting.
I went to see Fury v Parker and it was like a morgue, good job I was sat next to a few kiwi's who actually shouted for their man. The undercard was dull as washing and to be honest I was glad when the show ended for the run to get our last train back to Leeds.
You cant beat the atmosphere when Eubank was fighting. I think I could honestly say that the atmosphere in the Eubank v Wharton fight was effing electric you could feel the noise inside your body, and your ears were ringing well after you left. I have never had hairs stick up on the back of my neck like that night, it was pure euphoria.
Ive not been to tonnes of live action in the 2000's but nothing sticks out to emulate Eubank in my opinion, not even David Haye v Audley Harrison.

Been to a few shows and all but a couple there has been some type of trouble - ffs they were fighting at ringside at DeLaHoya vs Floyd, tickets that cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Small hall shows all depends on who the fighters are, been to many Colin Kenna fights and if Henry Castle for example was on the undercard you knew there’d be dick heads with there chests puffed out trying to intimidate people (except when he fought in Pompey, wonder why they weren’t trying then!!) - guess people support the boxer not boxing if that makes sense.
Then the bigger shows you have people seeing their mate fight on the undercard, piss off to the bar to get pissed up and come back for the main event. Pissed up lads = more chance of trouble.
That said I’ve never really had bother. Only go either myself or with a couple of lads and we go and watch all the fights, don’t get involved in hanging around boozing etc as the trouble will be on the concourse as opposing fans tend to be sat away from each other like football. Only bother I had was because I couldn’t not say anything to a group of Khan supporters sat behind me in Pakistan cricket shirts telling Willie Limond to go back to his own country!!
Never been to a fight with a shite atmosphere and I think over the years it has gotten better, you can drink in the arena now, fights are on one after the other, used to have about 30-60 min wait between fights.
Always worth asking on here whose going as I’ve met up with a few posters over the years at fights. Poncey, The Law, Terry, Jim Cook, Eddie Shredder, Matt S, States and probably a few more. Would have met a good few more but we couldn’t physically get in the pub in Hamburg where everyone was. Gutted as I didn’t get to meet the legend that is Mickey.

Yep go along with this. Stadium fights are worth doing once if you can just to experience it but if going for cheap tickets the views are generally relatively poor and if for example a Joshua fight good chance the undercard will not be the best. So probably once only unless you find you love that experience.
I started going to small hall shows in my mid teens probably because Frank Maloney was local and had a column in our paper and so just started following some of the local lads a bit - best way really as then when they get on a bigger card you've got a genuine reason to go - to support them (probably with no booking fees) and then can appreciate a big arena atmosphere too.
Definitely do it though can't beat going live in my opinion and although a lot of people talk about it kicking off in the crowd here and you'll likely see something from a distance, you'll be very very unlucky to be involved if going on your own and therefore presumably not being a wally

You'll love it mate. You obviously love your boxing and know a fair bit about it so I'm surprised you've not been to pro shows man. I've been going since I was a teen and I've seen a fair bit of bother but only really had one incident myself and it wasn't anything bad. I find if you watch what you're drinking you'll be ok. It's mostly the drunk wankers who cause the bother because they think they're He-Man!
I've been to my fair share of big cards and smaller ones. You can't beat the atmosphere at a big fight. I've been going to Old Firm games since I was young and I always enjoy the big fight atmospheres more!
I don't get to as many fights as I'd like nowadays because of kids, finances and the fact my mates aren't massive boxing fans! Ive managed to get a couple to agree to go to the Windsor Park show in the summer for Frampton and I'm trying to see if anyone fancies this Kelly/Ritson card in Newcastle in June
Where is you stay mate? Is there no small hall shows near you to test the water?
My two oldest boys are always on at me but I wouldn't risk taking them until they're much older. They used to do a daytime pro show every now and then near here in the Gobals in Glasgow. Was keeping an eye out for them starting again and I'd have considered taking them to that.

Been to quite a few events this year including Frampton last week but always find myself coming to the same conclusion - better off at home ! Better view, cheaper, easier to get a drink and have a piss and no dick heads ! I think this whole atmosphere thing is a bit overplayed. Especially if a lot of the undercard fights have gone the distance.

Defo worth watching fights live. Especially small Hall as you will be surrounded by boxing fans.
I’ve been a bit unhappy with the trouble at recent Arena/Stadium shows.
AJ/Parker/ Had a kick off directly in front of me.
AJ/Takam- Kicked off.
Williams/Smith 1- Kicked off
Williams/Corcoran/ Kicked off.

I know that mate i was sat amongst them. Its funny how the crowd and noise can influence how you see a fight. I had Wharton winning the fight until I saw it on tv again later.

I wasn't a legend that night. I spilt a drink over somebody in Shirow's VIP bit, Mr McNeily adopted me, a German St Pauli fan sold me some dip and I ended up with Dave Coldwell, Carl Greaves, Mickey Helliot and Buncey. Good company, if I could remember it.....

I've been live and live. When Tijuana1 was fighting, I'd generally be hands rested on the ring apron. Don't like stadiums. Full arenas, lower tier are good, as long as you're not a prick. I'll comfortably go anywhere and not give trouble a second thought. I'll even meet up with Stuarty in Newcastle.

Was over for that as well. Thoroughly enjoyed it as I always do. Belfast is probably the best atmosphere I've experienced tbh. Back in the day when Scott Harrison was champ, the atmosphere over here was pretty damn good as well! Apart from all the national anthem crap!

Fight crowds changed about 10 years ago.
I used to go to the Mickey Duff promotions and there was never any trouble. No alchohol was served and you would never see women there. All Arthur Daley types who knew their boxin.
Now its more like a nightclub with a boxing ring in the middle of the room and 20 year old males who are on steroids thinkin they're hard. But, believe it or not, the women are a lot more aggressive after a few alcopops !

I took my lass to the Copper Box last year when it kicked off but it was nothing new to her as it went off at the O2 when I took her to Joshua's first pro fight. I was actually surprised at how calm she was in amongst it considering how she shrieks in terror at the sight of a small spider.
