I've only seen him once. A lot of the hype material probably come from Ryan himself given what I've gathered about his personality

The 19 year old Garcia faces gritty veteran Jayson Velez (26-4-1, 18 KO's) next. The 30 year old Velez has never been stopped as a pro and has been in the ring with world class opposition.
This is a big step up in class. I'd go as far to call it an egotistical step up in class. Pretty boy Garcia better be careful or Velez will make him ugly.

Velez is young enough and he has good experience. Ryan may bite off more than he can chew this time but maybe Oscar has a plan.

He's definitely cocky, arrogant and full of himself to the point of being obnoxious. The hype generally comes from Golden Boy Promotions since Oscar seems to be grooming him as the next "Golden Boy."
That being said, Garcia IS very talented and to be stepping up to the level of former world title challenger Jayson Velez is very impressive for a teenager who has only had 14 pro bouts!!
The Velez fight (May 4) should tell us a lot about Garcia.

Ryan Garcia seems pretty good for a 19-year-old. I don't know where the hate in this thread is coming from, but it doesn't appear to have any basis in boxing.

Garcia is VERY good. Excellent amateur credentials...steadily moving up the competitive ladder at an ambitious pace as a pro. One of the top teenage prospects in the game, but I think his arrogance and cockiness turn some folks off plus I think some of the animus is directed at his promoter DeLaHoya.
