hes looked good, but ive watched a lot of his fights and theyve been feeding him much smaller guys who are there to be walked through and flatter him. they have been doing a good matchmaking job in that respect. velez is a legit step up for a 14 fight 19 year old though. it will be a big statement if he does a demolition job on him.
i think he will probably prove to be a very good fighter but sometimes these guys who look red hot can disappoint.

I always see his posts on social media. Does my head in. I saw a post from a boxing account on Insta the other day saying that Garcia was claiming he'd outboxed Loma for 3 rounds in sparring before Loma got pissed off and threw him on the floor. I call bullshit on anyone outboxing Loma tbh.
I saw a video of him sparring Rolando Romero (4-0, 4 KOs). I think they did 6 rounds. Garcia was OK for a few rounds but ended up getting busted up quite badly, nose bloodied and pretty much running away from Romero for the last round. He looks good against the current level of opposition, but I think he might struggle when someone puts it on him. He seems to stand up quite straight and leaves his chin in the air as well. Can't wait for it to get cracked.

Is this the lad who boxed Shakur Stevenson a few times in the Amateur's? I may be thinking of someone else

i think that may be ruben villa, who beat stevenson a few times but lost to him in the olympic trials i think
garcia fought fellow teenaged prospect devin haney a few times in the ams, and lost there last two meetings in the us nationals by 3-0 decision

Shakur tweeted once that he beat Ryan Garcia in the ams. Haney said he went 3-3 with Garcia as well, with Devin taking the last 2.

Haven’t seen him fight but Jayson Velez will be a good yardstick to see where he’s at.

I was following him on Twitter for a while but he's a right knob - although who wasn't at 19
A Tex-Mex mate of mine in the game had already told me this but I thought I'd give him a chance.

Won a US Youth championship once, apparently. Never done anything on world or olympic level, but he is just a kid to be fair.
215-15, but again just at US domestic level.
No idea if he's ever beaten anyone of note.

Pretty much what I see too. Plus they seem to be matching him with guys a lot smaller than him.
With his chin in the air and upright style can see him losing once he steps up against a puncher.

I think Davis would destroy him right now but if the kid progresses......
Big step up fighting Velez. It will be a good indicator of how far he’s gonna go. Velez was better at featherweight but wouldn’t surprise me if he springs the upset and beats Garcia.

Ive read that but I bet he and his promotional team would crap a kitten if Loma came looking for em! Same as Floyd and Davis have done (and they're a couple of levels above Garcia and GB)!....

i would be really surprised if he did that. he looks powerful but really doesnt seem anywhere near that advanced in his boxing yet. much easier to say you schooled loma then actually doing it, and he seems to have no reservations about big upping himself.
im curious now about the 4-0 guy who apparently bloodied him up on video
