Ryan Garcia vs Jayson Velez

Garcia being stepped up pretty significantly here. Velez is solid and durable. Garcia has been blowing cats out early. He is extremely cocky. At 19 he looks very promising but he needs to slow his roll on social media. He's got a lot of power tho but obviously he is going to start fighting guys who can take it and come back with interest.

seen a lot of garcia, looks real promising but hes been matched with a lot of small underpowered guys who are made for him to walk through. this is a legit step up vs a guy who has fought good opponents but never been blown out. velez has had most of his career at a lower weight, but he doesnt seem small for 130.

Velez has been at 130 for his past 5 fights...almost 2 years, so he's definitely a legit super feather.

BTW Ryan's little brother Sean recently turned pro and has 2 wins in Mexico. He wont be able to fight in California until this coming October, when he turns 18. Here's the two of them when they were still amateurs. Sean has decent amateur credentials but he's :geek: not nearly as accomplished as Ryan (or as cocky).

Decent matchmaking here if Velez has a decent go and Garcia comes through! Proper SFW and fair play!

anyone know much about rolando romero? he bloodies up garcia and really roughs him up near the end of this sparring session. like rag dolls him. one thing i notice is how upright garcia is.

Romero is 4-0 with 4 KOs, but even though he's been pro almost as long as Garcia he hasnt been nearly as busy, Promoted by Mayweather Promotions.

He's only been boxing since he was 17...after pursuing judo in his childhood. He started boxing on the advice of his dad, who was an amateur star in Cuba before defecting to the US.

Romero is a weight class above Garcia, I wouldnt read too much into their sparring. Romero is a lightweight. Velez has been a featherweight most of his career. Those chose Velez as the step up because he's relatively new to super featherweight and isnt going to muscle Garcia around.

oh ya i dont think velez will beat garcia around like that. romero looked a lot thicker then garcia. but still was interesting to see garcia get bloodied and rag dolled like that when id only seen his one way traffic pro fights

Agreed, but at least Romero showed himself to be a legit prospect. Now Mayweather Promotions needs him to get busier, so he can develop his impressive potential.

I agree. Velez has never been stopped so a Garcia KO would be a REAL surprise.

Pretty insane that we had one thread dismissing Ryan Garcia as no great prospect, and on the other hand (at age 19) he's a -2000 favorite against a decent gatekeeper like Jayson Velez.

Agree...can't dismiss him. Not even close.
