Anybody remember this? It happened days before their rematch of January 29, 1974.

Sure. It's a famous part of boxing lore.
Frazier got all offended and insecure over Ali calling him "ignorant," while the two watched the original FOTC during a segment of Wide World of Sports.
Smokin' Joe got up, hovered menacingly over Ali, and then Ali got up, said something like "No Joe," grabbed him around the shoulders and pulled him to the floor.
The scuffle was on.
I recall Ali's bro, Rahman, getting involved.
Frazier left in a huff but Ali remained with Howard Cosell in the studio to watch the rest of the first fight.
Ali never had a problem getting into Joe Frazier's head.
It's a shame there aren't classic pre fight moments like that anymore. Today, everything seems so staged.

Frazier and Ali didn't like each other for reason. In most cases it's only business there and staged hatred helps to achieve more attention. Frazier and Ali had enough attention without all those stuff, that incident came from real mutual disregard.

Maybe Joe should have gotten in a couple of extra kicks and punches, teach Muhammad a lesson.

Frazier had his chance in the FOTC.
After that it was all downhill for him against the GOAT.

Like Tyson, Frazier's style was a young man's style thus limiting his prime. bob and weave and smoke...JMHO.

That's true.
Guys with that smokin' style have relatively short primes.
They get hit too much and leave their all in the ring.

That mini scuffle tween Ali and Joe seemed staged as Hell... There were no serious punches thrown... But if I were Frazier I'd have punched that punk Rahman Ali right in the balls.. He needed a blast in the balls.. I've seen bawls at press conferences, interviews, and I've see them in the street... Fights where 2 boxers were seriously trying to kill each other.
Three well known brawls -- David Haye wasn't taking bullcrap off Dereck Chisora... He tried to blast DC's head off.
Larry Holmes wanted to kill Trevor Berbick... He tried to get at TB again after 30 people pulled them apart.
Mike Tyson wasn't in the mood to take any mouth off Mitch Green... Tyson had small hands and his right hand was swollen up 5 fights worth after he smashed Green with savage right hands... He tried to take Green out.
In most all street brawls it's 2nd rate boxers tearing after each other.... It's more fun to see when World Champions go at it... I don't know why it is, but 90% of street fights are unknown punks slugging it out for free... You don't see many of the top guys getting into these street brawls... One time a guy came to the gym with a gun and shot a couple guys he didn't like... He killed one guy... Some dudes have very serious issues with other people -- and damn the consequences.

Muhammad Ali treated Joe Frazier mean outside the ring a few times. That's why he should have laid him out in that studio. Would made tremendous press for an already great feud.

IT was real and Frazier hated it. If you watch "
Facing Ali," Frazier cries as he speaks about it. It is very sad. Frazier told Foreman that he didn't want his wife to hear he was peeking into people's windows when Ali called him...Uncle Tom. He thought it meant peeping tom. Very sad indeed. Loved Smokin' joe!

Yeah, What he did to Muhammad was really wrong, and his wife and Marvin should have joined Joe in giving the Greatest a taste of his own medicine

. Really starting to feel that Muhammad was jealous of Joe as a man's man, but didn't have the courage to admit it.

He was just a plain old narcissist that didn't think before he spewed. Ali was so far over the top. Arse whole but greatest fighter.

Ali was stepping behind the line with his actions against Frazier. Probably Ali felt in Frazier real threat and wanted to win with all means possible. That's why his aggression outside of the ring was especially huge in Joe's address. Frazier took that as a betrayal, cause he had helped Ali financially during Ali's suspension. And Frazier was right, it looked just like that. So, there was real bad blood between them in the end.

I watched it, I liked it, but now I don't remember it good, so I need to watch it again. However, I rewatched "Thrilla in Manila" documentary for multiple times, I'd also recomend it, a great film.

It seemed that Smokin'Joe couldn't match his wit against The Greatest. Ali was better in oral communication. It seemed that Ali got fed up when Frazier brought the hospital comments. That's why he called Frazier "ignorant". Ain't nobody in this world like that word to be called at. Joe got angry and got up to fight. He had enough of Ali's mouth.

...so we agree...it was real...
The only funny thing Ali said of Frazier was during a rant, "and who told Frazier he could sing." That was funny...the rest of mean spirited.

Smokin'Joe said once that Ali was jealous of him. Is it true? What's your take on this?

I have no recollection of that, however; it doesn't seem to tie into anything I did hear/read/see with regards to Frazier's feelings or thoughts on Ali.

I don't think that the great Muhammad Ali wanted a street fight with Smokin'Joe. A street fight is another level. I think that Joe was the better street fighter in my view. Ali had the better wit and smartness. He always had the much more mouth.

Maybe Frazier could beat Ali in a street fight....but he wouldn't beat too many.... Even a guy like Foreman would do him in with knees, elbows, fists, and just his greater size and strength....
According to witnesses, Holmes and Berbick were throwing down like there was no tomorrow.
