Superficially-speaking, this move looks bad on AJ, but I’d be intrigued to know the sort of terms Team Wilder were offering, because that’s a lot of money to turn down and the reasons for rejecting such a sum must be more compelling than simply preferring to have hometown advantage.
There’s more to this than meets the eye...

It's really easy to make big sounding offers, but were there actual guarantees in place?

It appears from the statements from both Hearn and Joshua that they consider the offer very serious.
Hearn admits the money is in America
Joshua stated he's not selling his belts.
The offer as astronomical as it appears. Seems to be legit.
Now the ball is in team Joshua's court. They need to come back with a legit percentage offer to Wilder or they will look very bad in the eyes of the public.

What about all that talk a few months back about Joshua eager to come to USA and take on Big Baby at Barclay's?
Is that still on the table?.
Or is it just Wilder that Joshua doesn't want to fight in the states?
Or was it just Hearn blowing typical promoter hot air and there's never been any intention to remove Joshua from his native soil?

Agree mate. It's juvenile, frustrating and tedious!

Probably aimed at the casual fans, my gaffer at work is a newbie to the sport and always gets excited about this kinda stuff.

Same with most of my mates tbh. They love all the pantomime pish! Just annoys me. Even they face to face things they do over the table! They're fuckin AIDS!

It’s not for me to tell others how they should behave, but I feel that it’s prudent for us all to refrain from formulating an opinion on this matter until we’ve heard from all parties, since we haven’t received feedback from either Team Wilder or AJ himself yet.
It is easy for some to prematurely jump to all sorts of derogatory conclusions, because it seems many forum members relish the opportunity to repeatedly bark the word “duck” in a keyboard Tourette’s Syndrome like manner, but I’d like to think that the rest of us are better than that.

Ha Ha ! i hate those fecking things, bloody embarrasing, but again my gaffer will come in next day and go " X said he gonna go for 1st round ko against Y, and he looked like he really meant it" ! I just tell him to get his money on it then (which he does then loses !)

To be fair, I remember the days when I used to get a semi over the whole circus that usually surrounds big fights but you see through it the longer you watch the sport.

Ah yes, stuff like Benn v Eubank, i used to lap it all up, but thats before the sport turns you cynical ! To be fair i bet a fair bit these days on the fights so try and not watch any (or little) of the build ups as they tend to throw me off.

All this stuff is annoying. Hearn and Joshua are kinda ducking mandatory Povetkin, cause they know, it's no less dangerous option, than against Wilder, and Wilder fight is a bigger one, so they try to make it. Ok, that's reasonable. But with Wilder there's no signs of real negotiations, just some annoying showing off and exposing different clauses. Sign it up against someone already.

I don't care how anybody spins this, initially this looks bad on the part of AJ and his team. They were talking about coming over to the US to maybe fight Miller, expand his brand, etc. They were making it seem like a bogus offer that was made. Them turning down this deal also lends a lot of credence to what some of us thought, the 12.5 million (Or whatever it was) flat rate fee they initially pitched to Wilder was way too low.
At least from this article, it leans towards the side of the offer being legit. Now AJ doesn't want to fight on foreign soil. Hearn just signed that billion dollar deal, and at least to me, he feels he's going to make even more money off AJ in the long run, regardless if he fights Wilder.
I didn't see this fight happening until at least another year, so no surprise to me either which way.

Double yep.
Long ago I began to ignore the tedious negotiation process of big fights.
Just a lot of accusations, denials and posturing.
Watching Pacquiao-Mayweather drag out for half a decade was an excruciating exercise in the nonsensical.
Eventually Hearn and/or Haymon DiBella, Finkel will point fingers (middle ones) at each other, grimly declare that the fight can't possibly be made, and announce that they're moving on.
Of course a day or two later, they will jointly announce that the fight has been signed.
Just predictable stuff.
It's hard to imagine that back in 1970/71, the FOTC was negotiated in less than one month.
Guys were more interested in actually fighting than being part of an ongoing excruciating soap opera.

Wait, so can anyone fill in the gaps between Hearn demanding proof of funds and then seemingly taking Team Wilder's terms seriously?

I know it's been asked before, but I wonder how much of this is Hearn and not AJ.
