menard might be more dangerous then velez i think, maybe not take a beating as well but a better puncher whose more dangerous to catch someone. its an interesting fight and a big step up, though i like haney and think hell come through well

Haney and Garcia have a rivalry that dates back into their early amateur careers. I did a thread on Haney-Menard a few weeks back with videos of some pro highlights of Haney and one of the amateur bouts between Haney & Garcia. I'll bump it up to page one...

Haney is a really really great looking young fighter. Jab is a piston. Movement and speed off the charts.

Appears to a massive skill gap between the two early. Haney is in full control here.

haney looks great. impressing me a lot more already then garcia did, and garcia was impressive himself

This is even more of a mismatch so far than even the punchstats they showed would indicate. All of the clean, effective punches are coming from Haney. Menard might get a few pawing shots in there every now and then, all of the crisp, clean shots are from Haney.

Haney is the real deal. This kid is absurdly polished for a teenager. Hard to identify something he doesn’t do well. Very composed. Sharp.

stopping it then? why let it go on all those one sided rounds and then when you get right to the final round stop it then ?

either way haney looked great. maybe not a puncher but really athletically gifted and skilled and smart

Yeah if they were gonna do that they could've done it a few rounds ago because the writing has been on the wall since early on, by this point it probably would've been better if Menard just finished it out that way he at least didn't get stopped.

I think it would have been better for Menard to finish the fight. The way it went down will probably damage his confidence even further.

Not to mention his rep. It always looks better for your reputation to have not been stopped. When you got stopped AND dominated it makes the loss look a little worse on your record.

ya it was pretty strange. he came all that way just to have his corner stop it when he at least nearly had a moral victory of going the distance? and haney was hitting him but its not like haney was unloading with power shots non stop. more like just picking him apart with a moderate work rate and a lot of jabs. menard never really looked hurt

did they think it was 12 rounds or something? they couldve just let him go on and then stop it if haney really stepped it up and was pummelling him

His trainer clearly did him a disservice by stopping the fight with only 1 round to go.

Nonetheless, it takes nothing away from Haney, who looks like a future world champ.
