Cannot remember exactly when, but it was about 10 years ago - there was a belter of a TV fight and I am sure the crowd were throwing coins in the ring as a "nobbins" gesture but the commentator seemed to think it was a violent act -"disgusting that coins are being thown into the ring" - I'm sure it was a nice gesture.

You've just given me an idea. Cyber-Nobbins
Each seat has a POS (Point-of-Sale) console in which you insert your debit or credit card & the amount of Cyber-Nobbins.
You then get issued, via a box under the seat, with chocolate coins to throw into the ring.
It's brilliant.

I had been given money after a fight But it wasn’t thrown into the ring, it was in the ABA’s 2000 London Finals when Sam Salomon came up to me after the fight and gave me £40 while shaking my hand and congratulatory me, people was coming up to me saying “You do know who that man was that came up to you” I had a Big Head that night

That's a great idea in principle. I don't know what boxing shows you go to, but the ones I've been to, by the end, most punters would struggle to operate a point of sale gizmo. In fact, they may have already used the point of sale gizmo, to smash the person in front of them.

small hall shows generally if there was a decent scrap on. boxers could get a few extra quid maybe upto £100 each, doesnt seem a great deal but its free cash.
I havent come across this for many years and wondered if it still happened really.

That's awesome. Someone told me some time ago that a hockey hat trick originated in passing the hat, so to speak, for the player who scored three goals in a game. Never validated that, but now it seems reasonable to assume. Thanks Mimmy!

no worries. Generally nobbins, (coins) were thrown into the ring after a good fight, but the fight had to go beyond expectations really. maybe a 50/50 fight that was a slugfest action all the way fight and one winning by a point or even a drawn fight.

Its not a bad idea at all, maybe a secure box with the fighters name on it that punters can drop a few quid in, could be a nice top up for the boxers, especially after the punters have had a few pints.

It was banned by the BBBofC a few years ago (rightly so in my opinion).
It was my understanding that boxers in a nobbins fight got the nobbins only, instead of a purse ( not as well as a purse).
