According to numerous reports, junior flyweight contender Gilberto Parra Medina (26-4, 21 KOs) was gunned down in the Ejidal neighborhood of Pueblo Yaqui in Mexico.

The events occurred around 7:00 pm on Sunday.

Medina, 25 years old, was driving with a companion named Orlando Verduzco. - when a van approached their vehicle and several individuals opened fire - killing Medina and his passenger.

There is no information, as of yet, regarding how many times Medina was struck or possible motive for the attack. At the moment there are no suspects.

The murder of Medina is just a recent example of a common occurrence with respect to the gun violence in Mexico. Several Mexican boxers have been killed over the last few years in high crime areas within the country.

Medina had been in action back in March, when he was stopped in the ninth round by former world champion Saul Juarez - in their clash for the vacant WBC Latin junior flyweight title. The loss would snap a seven fight win streak.

Back in March of 2015, he traveled to Quezon City in the Philippines to challenge WBO junior flyweight champion Donnie Nietes, who is regarded as one of the best fighters in the lower weight classes. Nietes proved to be too much and stopped him in nine rounds.

In 2017, the older the older brother of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was shot and killed by robbers, Sonoran boxer David "Destroyer" Lopez was shot dead in an incident which occurred in his native Nogales, Sonora - and in La Paz, Baja California Sur - Mexican Olympian Raul Castaneda was ambushed by a storm of bullets and later died.

RIP Gilberto!! This tragic murder is just part of the ongoing bloodbath in Mexico. One of the big reasons for that bloodbath is the fact that it is ILLEGAL for private citizens in Mexico to own firearms.

When guns are outlawed only OUTLAWS have guns. The following VIDEO is just one example of a good guy with a gun disrupting the armed robbery of a restaurant by wounding the armed robber and preventing his escape so that police had enough time to arrive and arrest him.

ya, hardly any gun violence in the us is there, that video is totally 100 percent of how guns are used in the us

i wonder what the 'rates' compared to other industralized countries would say

youtube politics is a thing, easy to select your 'reality' among a mass of other outcomes, but what about the broad picture

This video is great example of why civilians should not have guns.

TO "HERETIC": Since your are the only one who has recently responded to the related thread in the Off Topic Forum, I'll just reprint my response from that thread. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=222144

In your idealistic, pacifistic fairy tale world your best outcome is where NOBODY would have gotten shot and the armed robber would still be roaming the streets, preying on individuals and organizations alike. (The newscaster mentioned in the video that police believe this robber has a history of robberies.)

That's why you ARE an extremist, because you put the welfare of criminals, thugs and murderers over and above the rights and security of law-abiding citizens!!

That is warped and twisted and I can see why you call yourself "Heretic." You are not a heretic in the religious sense of the word, but rather in the socio-political sense of the word. Spewing bizarre and twisted ideas that only work in your fantasy world. (Again, I am not advocating this video response as a template or example to be followed, but present it as a best-case scenario, because nobody but the armed robber was hurt and he is now in custody and unable to prey on other innocent people.)

I bring Mexico into the conversation because Mexico is not only our closest neighbor, but because there are many commonalities between the US and Mexico. Both countries gained independence through violent revolution, as did most countries in the Americas (North, South and Central). The incident in the video also took place in a primarily Mexican-American barrio in metro LA (which is itself majority Latino).

Those Mexican-American immigrants who migrated to Santa Ana voted with their feet by choosing to flee the violent bloodbath that Mexico has become. In case you dont speak Spanish, the restaurant worker who was interviewed in the video, said he thought the shooter in the drive-thru lane was TRYING TO HELP. He didnt see the shooter as a threat but saw the armed robber as the threat.

You, on the other hand, (based on your pacifist stance) are apparently a modern-day Neville Chamberlain. (For those unfamiliar with the name, he was the spineless pacifist who cravenly appeased Adolf Hitler's 3rd Reich and made WWII a much more devastating war than it would have been if a real man of courage had been Prime Minister of Britain at the time and refused to appease Hitler.)

That's why so many Mexicans are fleeing the bloodbath of Mexico and coming to the US.
