If you've got a cold should you work out?

Just wondered if any of you fellas knew anything about the old immune system and if it's okay to carry on going to the gym with a cold. I seem to have a slightly worse cold than usual but I already took 2 weeks off the gym recently and am still struggling to get back to form.
Probably just take it easy tonight.

I would side against training with a cold, as it usually is passed onto other gym members.
If you are training correctly and your diet is good, there should be little chance of you picking up a cold in the first place. I haven't had so much as a sniffle in 2 years

But I thought the fitter you are the more prone you are to colds and flu? Something to do with having more red blood cells or something? Loads of top athletes get colds don't they.
How many fights get put back each year because of colds interupting training?

In my experience, you can avoid colds by good nutrition which complements your training.

yep, looked rediculous too. There is no way a kid's muscles can grow like that naturally, whatever food he was eating.

Not in London you can't. Try standing on a tube for 15 stops, jammed in with 60 people, half of them with colds and sneezing every few seconds - lovely

In a few years time the kid will realise this when looking back on his childhood for sure.

I've always maintained that you can do light cardovascular with a light cold but if you has gunk pissing out your nose I would just rest and take fluids.
From experience from intensive football training, I've found that gently pushing yourself with a mild cold can make you feel a bit better but it all depends on your energy levels.

I saw the first half an hour of that channel five show with that kid, decided there were better things on and put Room 101 with that mad artist woman on who puts dead sheep in the Tate.
I was wrong, she was more weird the 6 year old with the eight-pack.

Cold when an athlete is in serious training is usually a sign of over training. In an over trained state the body is prone to various ailments due to the immune system being over worked. It is in fact the white blood cells which are responsible for fighting infection and when there is a higher proportion of white cells to red cells this is an indication of infection.Red cells are responsible for delivering oxygen to the muscles and a whole host of other functions.
So the answer is, under no circumsatnces train with a cold it will seriously hinder your performance.

I hear he's lined up as Hattons next opponent if he beats Stewart.

I drink, smoke, and at the moment all the exercise I get is an hour's cycling to and from work a day at the moment. I work in a hospital during the day, and have been surrounded by people with Flu over the last two weeks and still haven't caught anything.
I eat lots of veg, tonnes of garlic (excellent antibacterial) fresh fish and meat, and I have only had one bout of illness in three years, which was a chronic chest infection. A girl I am seeing had the flu when she came over, and I still didn't get it! The Flu that is!
I just don't seem to get ill these days, despite being a bit of a naughty boy at weekends.
I think that diet plays a massive role in your general susceptibility to colds and flu. When I used to weight train, I never did anything more than light training if I had a head cold, but then again, I was hardly what you would call a serious athelete.
Look to hear news that I have terminal cancer of the brain next week. Tempting fate special.

Personally, I love the gym when I have a cold. A good half hour on the treadmill followed by the steam room really cleans you out!
But I have been told you shouldn't...
But then again you shouldn't drink, smoke e.t.c ......

I think Mighty Warrior makes the valid point, if you ride the underground every day you'll get a cold at some stage no matter who you are. All around you there are sniffs coughs and sneezes.
Anyway guys you'll be pleased to know that I now feel almost 100% and ready to get back to training (after tomorrow nights piss up that is).

I think I jinxed myself, a couple of days after saying I go to the gym when I have a cold I get a stinking cold and get the chance to prove my point! Haven't had a cold this year so I suppose it was coming.
