Just an thought that crossed my mind this evening. How would Roy Jones Jr or James Toney have managed against Smokin' Joe Frazier? Of course Frazier was a heavyweight on the smaller side of the scale but nevertheless an extremely ferocious, powerful and tenacious fighter with tremendous heart. How would a fight have gone down between him and those two?

Toney always was vulnerable to left hooks which as we all know is Joe's bread and butter punch so I think that would've been a pretty rough night for James.

Roy's speed and athleticism could give him the edge for long stretches in the bout, but it'd be interesting to see if he could absorb or avoid Joe's best shots all night long.

Which heavyweight smaller than Frazier could beat him? Not a soul on this planet is the answer.

Jones and Toney did nothing special at the heavyweights. Toney stopped a shadow of Holyfield's shadow, but that's not a big deal. Frazier was a remarkable heavyweight. Possible advantages of Roy and Toney could have been swiftness and defensive skills, but again at the heavyweights all those stuff of theirs was less effective. Smokin' Joe was relentless, he was thunderous himself, he was bigger and stronger. Frazier would have dominated them both with a possible stoppage, which would have been especially possible against Roy.

Frazier's much too big for Jones, who would get flattened pretty quickly imo.

I know Toney beat up an ancient Holyfield, and was able to get by pot shotting large, cumbersome types like Rahman and Peter, but the volume and accuracy of a fighter as fit, driven, and aggressive like Frazier would neutralise that style. If it's 15 rounds I don't see him lasting. 12 rounds it's a terrible drubbing.

I agree with all of this mate.

A 1971 Frazier stops both of them, Toney sooner. Toney was too slow for Joe and didn't throw enough to keep Joe off him; Jones didn't hit hard enough to keep Joe off him. Frazier walks in on both of them; just too big.
