which fighters are bad at business ? any examples of particularly bad moves?

ggg is said to have just turned down an increased offer from canelos camp for a 60-40 split that would probably see golovkin earn about 20m. now he can go make 2m to fight someone. what a dumb dumb. watch him now lose to a guy like derevycanko, murata, saunders, etc

Amir Khan effectively wasted a few years of his career and missed out on a few decent paydays chasing a Mayweather fight which was never going to happen, if that counts.

Mickey Bey being convinced to drop his IBF Title by Haymon when it was the one and only thing that made him an opponent that people would want to face is one of the dumber moves I've seen.

Winky Wright made some bone headed moved.

Ditto Shane Mosley when he turned down Oscar 3, to take on Winky for significantly less money.

Sometimes you gotta have pride and do things your way.

I don't consider GGG's move here to be bad business really. I think he's perfectly justified in wanting more, and moving on if he doesn't get it. He's still the man to beat in the division, and still will make a very comfortable living with or without Canelo.

You assume that all boxers fight only for the money. GGG already proved that he can beat Roidnelo. He will do more for his boxing legacy if he rather unifies more belts or moves to conquer the 168 division.

JMM springs to mind here

..so, if both parties in fact will agree on 60/40 split instead of 65/35, how would that make GGG the worst business boxer?

I've never seen it either but there are those who claimed Marquez wad robbed and others who say John deserved the decision.

We await word from those who have actually witnessed it.

This is bit different from the others but Pacquiao made shit loads of money and somehow he still was broke for good portion of hes career.

I hope he has got wiser at the tail end of hes career.

I don't know how much Kovalev got from the Ward fights but he surely had to eat loads of bullshit for it. Probably a bad deal.

He got about $31,000 apparently for the fight...

its pretty f@cking hilarious to me that someone here once gave marquez (and hopkins) as fighters who took defeat with grace and accepted it. they were two of the biggest moaners in boxing

john-marquez was far closer then jmms huggers want to admit. i think some ppl ahead of time decided no way that john could be competitive with him

Don King was a lot cleverer than people gave credit. He realised the psychological impact that large sums of cash could have on fighters who like most of us, were not used to seeing 100k 'casually' lying around. He was the predecessor of all those rappers who used the same trick.

And of course he used verbose language to impress and happily played the race card and whatever other card he could to convince fighters to sign. Then there was his legendary persistence, he simply didn't give up till he got a signature.

Why he did all this, I'm not sure even he knows why.
