Martin Murray vs. Roberto Garcia - 23 June 2018

Roberto Garcia will defend his WBC Silver Middleweight title against Martin Murray at The O2 in London on June 23, live on BT Sport and allegedly.

Murray will be looking to put the frustrations of missing out on a shot at the WBO Middleweight World Title behind him when he challenges Mexico's 41-3 Garcia later this month.

Garcia is currently enjoying a 13-fight winning streak that stretches back to 2010 and will be heading to London full of confidence.

“I was gutted about Billy Joe Saunders pulling out of our fight for a second time but this is a great replacement,” said Murray. “Roberto Garcia is the Champion and he’s willing to travel to the UK so we know he is well up for it.

“He’s been calling me out on Twitter for a while and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to make the fight so quickly. This means that several months of hard training won’t got to waste and I’ll be out on June 23 topping a great show.

“A good win against Garcia will put me in a strong position with the WBC so there's everything to fight for. It has been a frustrating period of my career and I’ll be taking my anger out on Garcia on June 23 before moving on to even bigger fights.”

"I’m not like Saunders,”
said Garcia. “I’m not afraid of Murray. I’m willing to risk my title and come to London to beat Murray in front of his own fans. My promoter Don King will be in London to watch me win in style. Let’s get it on!”

Garcia v Murray tops a talent-packed card that features some of the UK's finest young fighters including Light-Heavyweight KO artist Anthony Yarde, Heavyweight monster Daniel Dubois in English title action against Tom Little and Hackney talent Ohara Davies.

Roberto Garcia looks like a mix between Randy Orton and Oscar De La Hoya.

I'm just glad Warr'en kept Murray on the card.

Less than 2 weeks away and still no opponent for Anthony Yarde. The card’s been planned for several months now and it’s really poor form that they’re yet to get an opponent sorted.

FW does loads of talking about how Buatsi/Johnson etc. should fight each other to decide who gets a shot at Yarde but he needs to spend more time getting him the right fights to progress.

Same with Ricky Burns at the weekend and Eggington later this month.

What is it with British promoters at the moment?

They're all pretty lousy, with allegedly being the worst.

I’m not as bothered with Burns and Eggington.

Burns is just a keep busy fight and wasn’t even announced I don’t think when tickets go on sale.

I’ve just seen they’ve announced Dariusz Sek as Yarde’s opponent.

Why is Yarde avoiding the domestic scene?

He's not fought a single top 10 ranked domestic fighter has he?

I don't get it. What's with all the foreigners?

Davies vs Leather is off. Leather is apparently taking some time away from boxing.

I’ve not seen Kamanga but his record suggests he’s solid to a certain level, does anyone know if this fight is actually a tougher fight than the Leather fight for Ohara, given Glenn Foot should have come away with the win against him arguably?

This bill is pretty shocking but I see some intrigue still, this Sek could be a good opponent for Yarde given the fact he’s not been stopped, he’s tall and he’s a southpaw.

I’m also in the minority that Little is a decent step up for Dubois, but don’t have faith in DDD showing much improvement in movement, speed, jab and combinations.

Murray has a tendancy to nearly always have tough close fights, I thought he drew with Rosado and the Lawal fight was too close for comfort and he was well beat by Groves, I'm glad he's got a decent fight after Saunders pussed him about, ive seen Garcia a few times and he's a tough cookie, he headlined a few shows on ESPN but since FNF stopped I haven't seen him since, he's still in form though although hasn't mixed in the same company as Murray

I thought Murray was gassed badly by the end of the Rosado fight but maybe this camps been better, Frampton's engine was certainly a lot better against Donaire than it usually been, i'd love to see Murray win legit, no dodgy cards but Garcia will be there in his face all night, both guys quite similar, I reckon Murray wins a close one, he'll need to bring everything he has left though

Has anyone seen much of Garcia? Decent record & his only loss in over 14 years was to Margarito on points (just before Margarito had his face rearranged by Pacquiao).

Hasn't fought great opposition since then but not as bad as a British fighter who's just ticking over.

Doesn't stop too many of late so this could either be an ugly mauling kind of fight or a 10 round slugfest.

Well Murray always comes up short when going for an actual World Title. He might pull it off here in the attempt to win the "Silver" Title which is like the 9th most important title in the division.

i thought my mind was playing tricks on me, cus i never recalled garcia being a mw, and sure enough most his weights are in the low 150s and he seems stuck between 154 and 147 diviisions, rather then being a genuine mw

he was only 153 when he won the mw title he has

i recall him being dropped or hurt several times but he seems to be one of those guys who looks vulnerable but yet is hard to stop. marg floored him but couldnt stop him, he got floored by prescott but still won, and got hurt by omar chavez but still one. his fights are ugly and mauling from what ive seen. hes giving up a lot of size

Apparently Murray shoved Garcia at the weigh in.

Acting all pissed off.

Looked fake. Something was said between them before,

sounds like, "Hey, let's sell the fight".. then the push looked a but much.

I’ve seen him before. I think he gives Ohara a good fight.
I favour Ohara but the odds for the Congolese is 10-1. I’d only make him a 3/1 outsider.
Got to be honest even though I think Ohara will win I’ve put a fair bit down as 10/1 is cracking value.

Murray looked a bit daft there.

He wouldn’t have tried that with BJS - his kid would have smacked him in the bollox !

I hope Yarde steps up & fights someone I've heard of after this bout (assuming he wins tomorrow)

When was the last time he fought a British boxer?

5 fights ago, when he won the Southern Arena title.
