Crowd trouble tonight

Crowd trouble once again at tonight’s event.
Big brawl at Fury Parker , big brawl at Fury Rogan, big brawl tonight. Other events have the same problems too, although I must say Fury fights seem to have a bad atmosphere.
What’s wrong with people.

Such a shame these events aren’t better policed. Is it getting to the stage you have to question the sale of alcohol? I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable taking my kids to a show .

I can't comment on tonights barneys but in the days when I was going regularly trouble happened when a boxer got a non boxing fan following.

Proper boxing fans don't brawl at boxing matches. Drunken wankers do

Joshua has had 243,000 people at his last 3 fights and I don’t believe that crowd are proper boxing fans. I’d wager many of them wouldn’t know What weight gloves the fighters had on. Most would accept that sugar diabetes was a welsh lightweight.

Zero trouble to my knowledge.

Ha ha sugar diabeties :TU: Your right about the lack of knowledge though, can you imagine going to a football match and no one knowing anything about the game ! That's why I don't go to live shows anymore, its like sat in my living room with my clueless mates but times 10,000

It kicked off a few times near me during the Joshua-Takam card, but only relatively small scuffles. Alcohol is definitely a huge factor, I wouldn’t be at all bothered if it was banned at shows.

I`d rather it was banned always end up drinking too much of the over priced warm piss in a plastic cup and regretting it after :brick:

I suggested an alcohol ban about four years ago after some crowd trouble, I was shouted down as proposing some kind of nanny state IIRC

I’ve been to a lot of shows in the last 4 years and it kicked off massively at pretty much every one of them .

Worst I’ve seen was at the Cocoran vs Williams fight in Wales, was all out aggro .

Alcohol being banned wouldn’t bother me in the slightest , nothing worse than being sat there needed a piss all night

You can have a drink at nearly every sport so no reason why boxing should be different. Better stewarding and improved security are better than a nanny state ban.

Is booze the problem? Or is it that too many idiots are shoving cocaine up there noses and believing they are suddenly Pablo Escobar

Not quite true. At Joshua/Parker a bloke burped out loud in row H and he got a withering glance from someone sat in front. Thank god the moment passed without violence but you never know how these things will go.

What you need to do is list recent bouts that have had crowd trouble and see if there is any links. Once you have found those links then start to find ways to stop the trouble.

Last fight I went to where there was fighting was Fury v Parker.

There is a start to finding links. Last night fighting at Fury v 'that small bloke'. So I'm suddenly finding a link. Any other fights to add that can identify links?

Football fans get a weird hard time in these discussions. The vast majority of football matches pass without it kicking off.

Coked up Fury fans on the other hand...

That was a crazy night, dunno how much of it was to do with alcohol tho tbh, the atmosphere was poisonous right from the start.

Your not wrong there mate , pockets of trouble erupting everywhere.

It was a fun night , didn’t ruin it for me as long as it’s not near me I don’t give a shit but someone’s night got ruined that’s for sure .

No, I don’t alcohol ban would solve it completely but it would help . I don’t think it should be banned though because of a few divs

Marching powder doesn’t lead to violence. More likely to have people chatting bollocks for hours on end to settle their differences.

It’s alcohol. People can’t handle the randle and they suddenly believe they are fighters themselves because they’re at the boxing. Divs

It’s society.

Look at how the divs have started to gatecrash the horse racing. They are having a huge clampdown at races now. They’ll do it properly, watch how little trouble happens at the big races in the next few years.

There’s a lot of people who think they can’t have a good day/night out if it doesn’t involve getting absolutely bolloxed.

Stop people from taking drinks into the arena for a start

In my experience, these are the factors that lead to trouble/disorder at a show:

1)Booze
2) Coke/Mcat
3) Booze plus coke/Mcat
4) Casual fans
5) Football Hooligan Types
6) Travellers

Generally, the booze on its own is not the issue, but is a factor. The main issue is stimulant drugs like coke and Mcat or speed mixed with the booze. A lot of younger punters these days drink very little compared to what I and my mates would drink back in the late 80s and 90s. We would sink 10 or 11 pints and chasers etc. These kids have a few 330ml bottles, a couple of shots or gins/vodka and rely on coke or mcat to enhance their evening.

When they feel the adreneline and smell the blood at boxing it can tip them over the edge and they suddenly think they are hard.

I've been to loads of small hall shows where there are hundreds of coked up lads and no trouble at all. This is generally because they are casual fans and only watch their mate before fornicating off again.
At a York Hall Goodwin show, the 300 odd crowd will completely change several times during the night. Therefore, they have limited time to start acting the pudendum. Its only when you get two boxers from rival areas or football teams that you get any trouble on these smaller shows.

At larger, more prestigious events its different. They are still casuals but tend to stay longer to watch at least 3 or 4 contests. This gives them the chance to make enemies in the crowd and the longevity of their patronage at the show naturally lends itself to more chance of fighting.

I've been to many, many shows with travellers and there is ALWAYS, always trouble. Large hall or small hall.

Part of the reason is their fighting mentality. A lot of these casuals half expect when they start gesturing and insulting rivals, that all they'll get back is a bit of the same. With travellers it doesnt work like that at all. If you offer one out, or call them a wanker or a pikey pudendum, then you are going to end up fighting them very, very soon.

I've seen it loads, coked up roiders giving it the big one to pot bellied, skinny travellers, thinking the safe distance of three rows or what have you is enough. Next thing they know they are getting punched in the noggin by travellers wearing huge rings, wondering how the fornicate that escalated?
That can happen on any show where there are travllers mixed with moron coke heads and whilst I don't condone the violence, I would come down in defence of the travellers in those scenarios.

The out and out football types are dying out really, there was that Barnsley (I think) and another Yorkshire football team had a huge tear up on a show a couple of years ago, but that was the last out and out football disorder at boxing I can recall.

Difficult for security to prevent this stuff as the kids often take the coke or mcat prior to going into the venue.

That's my take on it anyway.

The BBBoC rules for a non dinner show is no drinks in the arena. It gets well managed in most areas. Drinking is only allowed in the bar area.

Both of those comments have the ring of truth to them IMO :TU:

Got to factor in the timing of these shows as well. 10pm on a sturday gives people ample time to get overly pissed.

The best atmosphere i have ever known at footie matches was newcastles 5:15 satutday kicks offs. Gave people a chance to get nicely 'warmed up'. Give them another 3/4 hrs drinking and the atmosphere would have changed massively for the worse.

Would an earlier start be the worst thing in the world?

Large groups of males heading for a night out, plenty of drink, plenty of shouting, pushing, showing off, able to stand up and move about - recipe for disaster! That's why they brought in seating and banned drinking at football matches.
Its taken 40 years for the football authorities to consider re-introducing standing areas and drink is still banned in Scotland at games.
nothing- nothing - will stop the continued disturbances at big boxing events except banning alcohol and having sufficient stewarding to ensure spectators sit in their seats.
