By seeing fight on film, I think he would have dominated any era to tell you the truth. King Carlos was as good as it gets. I don't know about him being unbeatable. He at least lost 3 fights, but avenged them all.

He lost only at the early stages of his career, he obviously was growing then and hadn't reached his prime yet. While in his prime, yes, he looked close to being invincible.
