Is it fair that boxers (like Fury) get slammed for their comeback opponents being sub standard, yet when a footballer comes back from a 2 year lay off it’s expected they play against Burton Albion reserves

They reserve games are like sparring sessions compared to boxing. That Fury fight was guff but let's see him in with a decent operator. Charr would do me! I'd love to see him back with Peter and his main team! I can't see him getting back to the level he was under the current team I'm saddened to say!

No because Fury is still acting like it's 2015.

Isn’t training like sparring ?
Comeback and train with better standard then first proper game at reserve level?
Agree that Jury’s out on the new trainer .... will Davidson bollock Fury If things are getting slack?

Football wise I hated training! I was much better in a game! Davidson can't handle Fury no mate! I've said earlier in this thread or another similar one that I'd love to see Tyson back with Peter and being the fighter he's meant to be!

Nah, training is like training. Friendlies and reserve fixtures are like sparring, in that they are more about fitness and working on particular things in a 'live' setting, and competitive matches are like fights.
Maybe you could draw the analogy that Fury fighting an awful cruiserweight is like him being loaned out to Accrington Stanley for a few month to get him fit again. Actually that's an insult to Accy Stanley and league two. It's probably more like a loan to Cefyn Druids of the Welsh Premier league.
I didn't really have a problem with the opponent. If he's still at this level in three fights, and still chatting crap about being the lineal champ and the best in the world, I'll worry about it then.

There's sub standard & then there's Sefer Seferi.
Fury scraped the barrel so hard that he left a sizeable pot hole on the pavement, plus he came in weighing more than a Brachiosaurus.
To top it off, the 'contest' was more akin to 1970s World of Sport wrestling featuring Giant Haystacks v Mick McManus.
A footballer regaining his match sharpness in the reserves is not comparable, because no-one is being asked to pay to watch that & it's more like training to regain full fitness & sharpness, something Fury would have been better off doing, rather than indulging in a meaningless contest whereby he nor the fans would have learned a damn thing.

People need to move on from Furys comeback opponent ffs! what do you expect?
Lets see who he's facing in 12 months from now.
Fury needs time to get where he was, give the guy a break.

You can't blame the fighter for who they fight, but the promotional team behind him. They, ultimately, scraped the bottom of the barrel (Seferi) not Fury.
But this is a tale as old as time. Max Baer, after losing to Joe Louis, fought 24 times in the span of three months against essentially a slew of Seferi's and he didn't receive nowhere near the hate that Fury's received.
Hell the name Max Baer was brought up during the Seferi fight as Fury was clowning around for 95% of the match. I honestly think Fury knew just how horrible of an opponent choice it was, and tried to make the best out of a terrific situation.
He didn't want to hurt the guy. He only popped him once with a good shot and it was over. The fact it went 4 rounds speaks more to Fury's generosity than anything else. The fact Seferi quit after one good punch, when he went 10 rounds with Charr is a testament to just how piss poor the majority of the division actually is.

If Price or Joyce were telling people that they could beat Wilder and Joshua on the same night without a warm up fight then probably yes.

I scored 2 against their first team in the Beazer Homes League 88/89 and I’d been out for 9 months

If Price or Joyce's circumstances were exactly the same as Fury's, then yes & quite rightly.
Even taking their careers into account, fighting someone as poor as Seferi would be backward step for both & that tells you all you need to know, as Joyce is a complete novice & Price's chin couldn't stand up to a 15 mph wind.
