What a supprise Calzageh dosen't give froch much credit. Dose anyone think he will get a shot at one of them two light heavy champions or do you think they will fight it out (which I think is more likely.

Latest press release from Hennessey.................Robin Reid up next??

Rocket Ronnie’ heralds Cobra

29 September 2004
Nottingham’s Carl Froch underlined his status as the hottest property in boxing on Friday 24th September at the Nottingham Arena with his first round destruction of Damon Hague. So much so that he has drawn praise from every quarter and sent his rivals ducking for cover.

Sat ringside to see the 27-year-old add the British super middleweight title to his commonwealth crown was snooker star and big fan Ronnie O’Sullivan. He should know a future world champion when he sees one.
“Carl is the British Tommy Hearns,” said the Rocket. “I have seen almost all of his fights and he is a fantastic talent. He is going to be this country’s next sporting superstar.”
Another man who knows a thing or two about talent is Prince Naseem Hamed’s former trainer Brendan Ingle. He saw Carl’s ability first hand having been in Hague’s corner for the contest.
"Carl Froch tonight looked not one million dollars but 10 million dollars," Ingle said afterwards.
"He looked sensational and the shots he hit Damon with would have knocked down a full-grown bull.
"I don't know how Damon got up from the first shot but after the second, it was all over. They were two brilliant shots.
"Forget about Ricky Hatton - this fella is the business."

Next up could be Robin Reid, if the former WBC champion answers the call to action.
“Come on Robin; here I am, ready and waiting to fight you,” said Froch, fresh from his win in front of an electric hometown crowd.

“Don’t go all quiet on me again like you have the last couple of times I mentioned your name; this is a fight everyone would like to see and would be great for TV.
“What else are you going to do? Make a few defences of your fringe title against South American’s? I know a true champion like you – who has in the past held genuine world honours - wouldn’t like to go out like that.

“All you need to do is pick up the phone to my promoter Mick Hennessy and this fight can be made very quickly. Just do me one favour though; don’t price yourself out of the fight with unreasonable demands.”

Reid is several notches above Hague and Adamu. I think he'd beat Froch.

I'd like to find out, for me its a Froch UD, but Robin has got the power to trouble anyone

Joe says that Froch has to prove himself before he'll fight him... what like Salem has done.

Froch-Calzaghe is a BIG fight even at this stage of carls career.

Joe Calzaghe only likes talking about BIG fights

When you see his WBO rating you realise why he's called "The Magician".

Yes. And losing in a challenge for the interim title qualifies him for a shot at the bona fida title :o :o :o

Froch is using Reid and Calzaghe names to gain publicity, he is miles away from them.
How does a win over Damon Hague put him in with a chance of beating the two boxers he `s supposedly keen to fight.
Most knew Damon was tailor made for Froch, but Adamu has already highlighted revealed his faults.
Reid takes a good shot and would hit harder off the counter than Adamu did, he wouldn’t take as many right hands off Reid as he did of Adamu.
He would give Calzaghe to many openings and that would be enough.

The only chance Froch would have with any world class fighter is the proverbial punchers chance.

Froch beats Reid imo on points. Just remember how bad Robin looked last time out against Brian Magee, he pretty much lost every round that he didn't knock Magee down in, with a couple of suspect knockdowns as well as a dodgy point deduction. Froch so far has displayed a very good chin unlike Magee, but a bad defence. Reid also didn't look too hot against Sven Ottke although I thought he got ripped off. He hasn't looked good for a long time, this is why Brian Magee's handlers really fancied the fight and now Carl does.

Froch is a lot of mouth but i think he would genuinely fight these guys, i mean Calzaghe discredits Froch's claims but as Chambers rightfully states, is Salem any more qualified that Froch to fight Calzaghe? What has he done exactly that Froch hasn't?

I love the way Ronnie O'Sullivan calls Froch the new Tommy Hearns

I think it has to be a givern that snooker players know fcuk all about boxing so that can be discounted. In terms of froch's development I would certainly feel more confident if he were to look to Dodson next which for me is still very much a meaningfull fight he could take on.

I think Froch does have a good chance against Reid, even though Reid won against Magee i thought he looked sluggish (not got many more fights left in him), Froch could catch Reid at the right time. But i'd be rooting for Reid if this fight happened, just dont like froch he seems a big headed bastard to me, way to arrogant for my liking.

I give Froch a chance against Reid, Reid doesn't throw a lot of shots these days, but he can still bang and has a very good chin. Froch's whiskers have looked pretty stout too, but Reid has the power to really test them, and he's a good counterpuncher.

The more I think about it, the more I think I might just favour Froch in this one. Calzaghe though is nearer his prime, and I don't think Froch is ready yet.

Froch v Reid is basically similar in nature to Haye v Thompson, big step up against a fighter past his best, but Reid doesn't appear as vulnerable as Thompson did going into the fight.

It may be that Reid v Magee was about styles though, I thought Reid looked very good in the 1st 6 rounds against Ottke, and I think the final six were more about his not wanting to be DQ'd than anything else.

I don't think that Calzaghe is really looking at Froch or anyone at Super
Middle he's looking to jump a divison to fight one of the light heavy
champs. Can't see him wanting to fight the Veit/ Brewer winner. For some reason the big fights have slipped past him time and again.

Yes, but do any of the light heavies need calzaghe. Johnson can now fight Tarver or Hopkins, if Hopkins wins, he fights Tarver then maybe retires, win or lose.

Some reason being allegedly having no clout with the big boys.

Robin Reid? Christ that'd be a tough fight for Froch now.

This kind of matchup makes me think of Haye vs Thompson. One step too far...too early.

Reid would probably stop Froch at this point if they met.

I think Ingle's comments may have more to do with his continuing frustration that Hatton won't face Junior Witter. I think he was enjoying having a pop at Hatton via Froch....

Hague is certainly leagues below Hatton's top level opponents, but thus Far Froch does look a good prospect, in fact increasingly so. The Canadian guy Woolnough and Adamu were both tough customers, and Froch has actually gone 12 full rounds already, so in terms of proven stamina, and ability to take a lick, he's overtaken Haye already.

I was negative regarding Froch early on, and I still have my doubts, but he looks to be above domestic level already, the difficulty will be when he gets to the best Europeans and beyond, then we will see how he handles it when someone takes his best shots, and starts really unloading on him. The SM division isn't that deep on technically accomplished fighters who can bang, and his punch power will probably bail him out even at higher levels. Mundine, Green, Kessler, Beyer, Reid, Calzaghe etc all have a lot more experiene than Froch, anyone with a shaky chin, or poor stamina has to be a good shot for Froch though.

I can imagine Green for instance punching himself out and then getting bashed up late on, but it would be a torrid fight.

I think Green would batter Froch, he has no defence to speak of and from what I have seen and heard Green can really whack.

I think he's better off sticking to the likes of Dodson, Magee for the time being and getting in a few british title defences.

I thought the Hague match was pretty farcical. Those "bull-KO'ing" punches didn't even look that devastating.

I hope Froch moves on though he's a very bright lad, good for tv.
