"Terence Crawford reveals why he's not pursuing Manny Pacquiao fight"

Terence Crawford will only consider fighting Manny Pacquiao if the eight-weight world champion singles him out for a contest in the future.

The American pound for pound star has been linked with facing the Filipino legend for some time now but says Pacquiao has earned the right to choose his opponents as he prepares to battle Lucas Matthysse on July 14.

Coming off an impressive debut at welterweight against Jeff Horn, Crawford is now considered the best 147 pounder on the planet following previous reigns at 135 and 140.

How does Terence Crawford feel about Manny Pacquiao not wanting to fight him? He says that Pacquiao has the right to fight who he wants at this point in his career...

Thoughts?

Manny has more than earned the right to choose who to fight at this stage, he isn't the relevant force he once was so wont be bothered about chasing down the top dogs just as they wont care to chase him.

Not sure what Crawford means.

That he will only fight Pacquiao if Pacquiao calls him out first?

Yes, Pacquiao can pretty much choose who he wants to fight now or at any other stage of his career.

But for Crawford, its a big money bout that will give him the bright spotlight he needs if he cares to become a true boxing superstar.

He can't just fight the Horns and Benavidez' if he's interested in becoming high profile among casuals.

Crawford becomes a superstar only by beating another superstar/legend and doing it soundly.

Pacquiao became a household name by battering ODLH into retirement.

That's what Crawford needs to do to Pacquiao. And he would be wise to beat the drums for that match and not wait for the Filipino legend to pursue it first.

That probably won't happen.

Good call by Bud. It wouldn't look good if Crawford started calling out shot Manny.

It looks good to a certain sort of fan (see above), but I say credit to him for not catering to that sort. He'd bust old Pacquiao up six ways from Sunday, foregone conclusion.

There's no need to pursue Pac really. He's yesterday's news, and the division is swimming with sharks as is. If beating Pacquiao at this point makes you a superstar why wasn't Jeff Horn was superstar coming into the fight with Crawford?

Horn didn't beat Pac.

That's how he makes a name for himself.

Casual fans eat it up. They don't realize Pacquiao has seen much better days.

There's no place for sentiment in boxing.

Did Holmes care about Ali?

Did Norris worry about Leonard?

And did Pacquiao have concern for De La Hoya?

No.

They all did what was best for their own career.

Someone, probably Arum, will wise Crawford up.

Unless Bud is just playing noble warrior for PR purposes and really has his sights set on an eventual high profile destruction of Pacquiao and a passing of the torch.

Probably because just about everyone realized it was a piss poor home town decision. Not a deserved victory for Horn.

But if Crawford absolutely destroys Pacquiao, it captures the attention of the sports world.

I'm sure a decisive victory would definitely mean more, but I'm not sure beating Pac in any fashion means what it used to at this point.

That being said I'm confident that Crawford would pick him apart, and make it look easy. He would've done that 2 or 3 years ago frankly. The potential matchup just gets easier and easier with each passing month.

I recognize that you see it that way, but it doesn't interest me.

As others have said - at this stage it’s a mismatch. The confident Crawford would know.. Not sure manny will beat what is considered a past it Lucas M. Maybe I’d give the edge to Lucas as he may have more heart. Manny has been doing less and less each round of each fight he’s taken recently.

Well done to Crawford.

He is absolutely spot on.

The WW division is smoking hot with half a dozen or so really good fighters whom Crawford should be focusing on, rather than the ghost of Manny Pacquiao.

There's no value in fighting Manny now: The only way that fight ever becomes viable is if Pac pulls off a big win against one of the big dogs & puts himself in the picture, much like Roberto Duran beating Iran Barkley in 1989 when he was 37.
