Behind Closed Doors Tune Ups

In preperation for his fight with Foreman, Gerry Cooney had behind closed doors tune up against Wesley Watson. I'm pretty sure that Foreman had one as well, although I can't remember who with.

Anyone know of any others?

Leonard had one with someone (one of the Weaver triplets ?) in prep for Hagler and nearly got knocked out.

The Weaver triplets were a part of Hagler's camp for the Leonard fight. The fighter that you're trying to recall was future WBC middleweight champion, Quincy Taylor, I believe.

Yeah thats the one, Leonard said he was out on his feet, last thing he would of needed, luckily Hagler wasnt the force he once was, still a remarkable feat though wether or not you agreed with the decision.

Alexander Povetkin had a behind closed doors fight in which he KO'd former WBA heavyweight champ Bruce Seldon several years ago while under the tutelage of Teddy Atlas.

Wasn't Foreman's with Mike "The Giant" White?
There was a rumor that Sam Langford knocked out Jim Jeffries before the latter's fight with Jack Johnson, but I'm uncertain.
Henry Maske had one before the Virgil Hill rematch.
Finally, Apollo Creed v. Rocky Balboa III !

Bob Foster essentially had test fights prior to going to the Heavyweight division. He thought he handled himself well enough and went ahead with it.

Mike Tyson as a young man, essentially had test fights with pros while as an amateur.

And.....

@ the Sam Langford/Jim Jeffries sparring session, it never happened. The truth is that Jeffries looked like crap with young sparring partners, so Jim Corbett and Joe Choynski did most of the sparring with him (especially in front of film cameras). But to my knowledge nobody dropped him let alone knocked him out in those sessions.

It must be noted that when Jeffries was in his prime Langford used to promote himself as "Willing to take on all comers, EXCEPT Jim Jeffries."

I believe you about Langford-Jeffries. I do recall reading an article about it in the '90s and being surprised. It just seemed like something that would've been much more well known. And I too have heard what you printed above about prime Jeffries and Langford.

What are we talking about here? Like they fought a guy, but it was just in the gym and unofficial?

No head guards, no holding back, the same as a real fight, but with no audience.

Leonard had a number before Hagler but he had the most trouble with QT.
