Sean Dodd vs. Joe Cordina - 4 August 2018

Tommy Coyle (24-4, 12 KOs) has vacated his Commonwealth title.
The belt, which he won on April 21 in Liverpool against Sean Dodd (15-3-1, 3 KOs), will be contested by Dodd - the former champion - and Joe Cordina (7-0, 6 KOs) on a Matchroom NXTGEN show on August 4 at the Ice Arena, Cardiff.
The fight represents the second consecutive fight for Cordina in his home city after appearing on the Anthony Joshua-Jospeh Parker undercard back in March.
The fight against Dodd, however, will be the 26-year-old's first shot at domestic honours.
For Dodd, who is one of British boxing's feel good stories, it is a chance to win back the belt he won against Lee Appleyard, before successfully defending it against Thomas Stalker but was then stopped in the sixth round against Coyle.
Promoter Eddie Hearn took to Twitter to announce the Cordina-Dodd fight.
"Cardiff we are coming! #JDNXTGEN August 4th headlined by Joe Cordina v Sean Dodd for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title from the Ice Arena Cardiff - full details later this week."
Cordina's fellow countryman and Matchroom stable-mate Sean McGoldrick (6-0, 2 KOs), who campaigns at bantamweight, will surely be in the running for a slot on the undercard.

I will probably go down for this one.
I see Cordina stopping him. He’s such an accurate puncher I see him forcing a corner/ref intervention.
Like Dodd, but I think the Coyle fight will of taken a lot out of him.

I’ll probably go to this one as well. Interesting step up for Cordina, but he should win late rounds.

Anyone know why Coyle has vacated it ?
Should be a decent fight that I don’t see going the distance.

It was reported in the Hull Daily Mail that he's been offered a chance to fight in the States. It also said that he was likely to give up his Commonwealth crown to move up to Super Lightweight.

She doesn't do that

It's not something I'm too fond of tbh. I don't mind rimming a birds balloon knot though as long as she's not long out the shower

Dodd is a tough fighter, great engine for his age and not too many miles on the clock, he did look an old fighter against Coyle last time out, he might've just had the misfortune of running into an inspired Coyle that night who fought the fight of his life that night, Dodd in all fairness had been in great form going into that fight, comfortably beating Appleyard and Stalker and looked like he was peaking
Cordina has been mostly class since turning over, 1 or 2 flat performances but mostly decent, his opposition for an Olympian is abysmal though and Dodd is a big step up, Cordina punches to the body well but I mind Dodd standing up to some sickeners downstairs against Coyle, wouldn't recommend it all the same
I'm hoping Dodd can still hang with the young guns and he hasn't aged but I have a feeling he's ripe for a smooth sharp boxer like Cordina

Nicely put
I voted Cordina stoppage, though I only expect it to come late. Despite that, it should be a really entertaining watch, and like you said, I also hope Dodd can hang with Joe.

Step up for Cordina but I expect him to be to fresh and to sharp for Dodd. Think Dodds gonna take a bit of a beating before getting stopped mid way through

Is this on that SkyMix channel? I don't get that on BT but I have my brothers SkyGo on my iPad. I had Sky for years but I just patched them because their boxing content was poor and I can take or leave the football.

I was thinking about going down for this, but turns out my missus is going out so I can’t go anyway. Will watch it with a takeaway and a few beers at home instead, might turn out for the best as this doesn’t look to be a particularly good night of boxing.
