On Wednesday there my source in the boxing world has said to me that there will be a huge announcement regarding the career of Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios.

He will be signing a 6 fight deal a co promotional deal with Hennessy Sports and Murphys boxing


Hennessy Sports in the UK is owned by mick Hennessy and he will be fighting regularly on live terrestrial TV on Channel 5

The us a part of the deal is Boston based promotional company Murphys boxing which is run by one of the dropkick Murphys band
They are a relatively small Irish American promotional company but have built contacts with Oscar Dela Hoya's golden Boy promotions and is based out of boston but also promote and co promote in New York


The plan is 3-4 fights in the UK then fight for the IBO world welterweight title and defend in America


He could earn up to £300,000 on the deal

And Dan Rafael was just saying earlier in the week that it appears the long anticipated grudge fight with Victor Ortiz appears to be in the offing.

That's good. It's really the only fight that makes sense for the two of them, and if it actually lives up to the hype after all these years maybe they'll do it twice.

Nothing about Brandon Rios' career is huge ... least of all an update ...

I thought he looked shot against Garcia.

The previously iron chinned Rios was KO'd pretty hard by Garcia.

That could indicate that in the future, he'll have absolutely nothing left.

I had it 77-75 to Brandon Rios

Danny Garcia has one punch knockout power and unfortunately Rios got caught

I thought it was the best Brandon since he's lightweight days

That’s just not true is it. Rios was not ahead or close to being ahead. You could give Rios maybe 2 or 3 rounds if you were being generous.

official scores were 7-1 x2 garcia and 6-2 garcia

Ok thanks - I’ll be calling from Australia so will need to buy one of those international call cards. Are you able to leave your bank account details as well as your phone number just so I’ll be able to talk sooner rather than later because I’m a little short but will pay you back.

Or you could transfer me some money for me to buy the call card. I said I was calling from Australia that is true but I only have a bank account in Nigeria.

Supposedly Rios has finally landed that grudge fight with Vicious Victor Ortiz.

It's tentatively penciled in for Aug. 4, but be advised that so far it's a verbal agreement. Nothing signed so it can fall apart.

Leading sites for this bout between former friends but now hated rivals, is either El Paso or Stub Hub Center near Los Angeles.

FOX will air the fight, if all goes as planned.

I'm juiced for this one. Both guys are waaay past their primes, and continue to get high profile fights because of their names and fan friendly styles.

But this is a genuine grudge match, not one of those phony ones invented for promotional purposes.

They've despised each other for years, and so how can it be anything but a brawl?

Hard to pick a winner. Maybe a draw and they can do it again.

Will it be on the Berto vs. Alexander undercard then?

My first thought was that Berto vs Alexander was a SHOWTIME bout (like Garcia vs Easter), but I now see that it is planned for FOX.

Berto-Alexander is scheduled for the Nassau Coliseum. They're talking about Ortiz vs Rios in either El Paso or Los Angeles.

This confusion leads me to believe that Ortiz vs Rios will not be held on Aug. 4.

There's always plenty open television programming during the summer, so it very well may be held later in the month.

Remember that I said that the fighters have only agreed verbally to the fight, so a delay in plans would not be unexpected.

Could always be a split-site telecast on Fox?

I kno some of the undercard is going to start on FS2, then shift to FS1.

That's what I've heard about FS2 showing some of the undercard and then FS1 televising the night's more high profile bouts.

I don't see Rios-Ortiz being consigned to the undercard. If anything, because of styles and bad blood, it would figure to be more anticipated than Alexander -Berto.

More than likely, these fights will be on different nights in August.

If Rios fights six more times he's gonna end up a cabbage!
