I remember watching boxing back in the 90’s. Back then it was not uncommon for a champ to face a totally unknown fighter with little information, especially from third world counties where info was not easily available. This often resulted in spectacular upsets, huge knockouts, and shocking developments in boxing landscape. It was a mystery which often resulted in great action. Today with YouTube and cell phones this mystique hardly exists as fighters now know all about their opponents regardless of where they have fought and can make an educated decision if the fight is worth the risk. This has removed the element of surprised and has helped make boxing a calculated business.

You absolutly right

90s heavyweight boxing was so exciting because of this. There were upsets and turmoil. A bloke called rummy of rummys corner on YouTube did a 90s heavyweight chronology- worth checking out!

Even with hardcore fans, I find it difficult to find people that actually follow boxing outside of the US and the top guys. The pathetic thing about losing the element of surprise is that unread "fans" will just say so-and-so is past prime.

I mean going into the first Sor Rungvisai/Chocolatito fight, no one knew who his opponent was and how dangerous he was.
