Liverpool super lightweight Robbie Davies Jr (16-1, 12 KOs) has signed a three-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing.
The 28-year-old Merseysider will make his Matchroom debut when the promotional outfit return to Newcastle for a show later this year.
Davies Jr will fight for the vacant British 140lbs title against Glenn Foot (23-3, 7 KOs) who will put his Commonwealth belt on the line as well.
“I’m happy to get a deal with Matchroom,” Davies Jr told Boxing Scene tonight (July 5).
“It’s the platform I need to move forward and achieve what I’m capable of. I’m happy to be fighting for the British and Commonwealth (titles), it’s a dream for every fighter who turns professional. Glen Foot is a tough man and I’m under no illusion that this is an easy task, but like me he loves a war so I’m more than happy to oblige and meet him in the middle.
“It will be a great fight for the fans and one I’m more than confident I will come through in good fashion.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed on Twitter that the fight would be part of their second visit to Newcastle, their first was co-headlined by Josh Kelly andLewis Ritson last month.
“Working on new fights for the season. @RobbieDaviesJr v @glenn_foot for the British & Commonwealth light welter title done deal for Newcastle show to be announced soon - welcome to the team both of you, may the best man win!”
The career of Davies Jr got back on track in March when he gained revenge over Poland’s Michel Syrowatka (TKO 12) who had beat him with the same result in July last year. Davies Jr, who spoke to Boxing Scene recently about that win said: “At the time there was a lot of pressure on me because obviously the fashion that I lost, not many people would have taken an immediate rematch.
