Do fighters genuinely believe they can turn back the clock or just desperate for money and try to kid everyone?

He needs the cash ... almost certainly ... so let him fight ... and wish him the best ... he's probably out of options ...

Article states that McCall suffered a KO reverse to Henry Akinwande. Think they need to get their facts straight.

How much money is he gonna make against a 17-42-7 fighter who has lost 4 of his last 5 fights? McCall had issues years ago, shame on them for sanctioning this.

Well the matchup they got him booked in tonight seems winnable for him. He's facing a man that is 25 years younger than him, but with a losing record of 17-42-7 (6 KO's)

That being said this guy might give as good of an effort as is humanly possible for him in an effort to at least have a win over A Former Champion, and at least have THAT to be able to hang his hat on for his Boxing career.

We'll see how it shakes down.

McCall's younger opponent has only been stopped 6 times in 66 pro fights, so there is a challenge in this contest.

I honestly see no problem with this match up. McCall came in at 240 lbs. and visually he seems to be in good physical shape.

Woods has some power. I hope he doesn't stop McCall.

Getting in shape is one thing but at 53 you are not as fast or strong, his reflexes will have diminished, especially when he hasn't had a pro fight for over 4 years. Razor Ruddock tried something similar a few years ago aged 51, said he was in great shape (241lbs) and then got flattened by a 8-2 fighter with punches that wouldn't have bothered him in his hey day. No one can fight father time, look how poor David Haye was after a stint out of the ring and getting on in years.

He probably shouldn't be licensed at 53, out of action for 4 years, and with a history of drug problems.

And Texas has a real athletic conmission, so there's no excuse.

I thought that the fight may have been licensed in some backwoods state with a questionable athletic commission or even out of the country.

But no, it's in Texas.

I guess McCall probably knows what he's doing. His opponent sports a piss poor record, so he won't be bringing much to the table.

I would expect it to be a dreary clinchfest, probably going to an uneventful decision.

Best thing for McCall would be to lose, so that he doesn't continue in the sport.

But he undoubtedly needs the money, and he might just keep going until everyone eventually refuses to let him into a boxing ring.

Texas boxing license are handled by the tdlr.
The same organization that hands out cosmetology license.
I'm a long time Texas resident the athletic commission is a joke

I wasn't aware of that.

Texas has hosted numerous high profile professional bouts, including world championships, over the years, and I would think the state commission would have something of a respected reputation.

Nearby Oklahoma would be a different story.

They've held numerous big cards in Texas simply because it's easy to do so.
Fighters serving suspensions elsewhere are still licensed. It's a joke

Well, I know one thing--- tonight's fight is a joke.

Corpus Christi has some pretty savvy fight fans. I wonder how many will actually bother to turn out for this circus.

I'm going to corpus Christi next weekend. If I had known I probably would of gone this weekend to watch this.
I know McCall is ancient and past it. But I'd of watched out of morbid curiosity

WTH is happening in Texas these days? It used to be a tough commission. Not long ago they allowed some 60+ year old man to box, who got blown away in one round. WTF gives?

That'd be a shocker I'd say even at McCall's age, he's still never been stopped in the traditional sense the one TKO loss on his record was a result of him having a mental breakdown in the ring.

Apparently his opponent pulled out at the last second with a family emergency.
